I am putting this in fast threads because I do not think it would be a good idea to put such a simple question in a section where people actually want to have big things answered.
Anyhow, could someone please explain to me what the difference is between a widescreen monitor and normal monitor? From what I understand, the screen of a normal monitor can be the same size as a widescreen monitor? Please do explain facepunch.
Try to explain this in every-day terms, I get confused with technical stuff sometimes :|

Widescreens are wide.
widescreen is best
Widescreens have a 16:9 format, whilst "normal" ones have 4:3.
Its quite obvious what the difference is, widescreen is basically the standard of todays monitors, since it has more space overall and just looks better.
Because our "vision" is wide screen.
You'll really notice only a difference in games. For those, the main difference is in the FOV. You tend to see a bit less on widescreens and the huds on older games tend to be quite large vertically taking away a lot of your space.
Likewise people in 4:3 modes tend to see a lot more in RTS, with widescreen users needed a far higher camera and angle to see the same.

And that's only true if the widescreen has a lower vertical resolution than the 4:3 screen, unless the game scales accordingly...
Well a widescreen always has less vertical resolution. If you go by horizontal as your main.

There was proof posted in one of these types of threads in the past about our eyes actually seeing in similar 4:3 aspect ratio. AFAIK our eyes only seem to be widescreen to us, as we are more comfortable looking horizontally, than vertically.

Not really, it's dependant upon how the game is coded to handle widescreen. Old RTS games such as Red Alert 2, and Tiberian Sun use pixel based aspect ratio so it matches the viewspace with the screen.
Games such as C&C Generals are not designed for widescreen and so it uses "vert-" (Draws the game in a 4:3 aspect ratio, and cuts off a chunk from the vertical space).
Recent games such as Tiberium Wars, and Red Alert 3 use "Hor+" which renders the game the same as it would on a 4:3 but with a wider Horizontal viewspace.
I remember a time being disappointed youtube changed to widescreen :ohdear:
