• Very odd graphical errors in all of my games!

My problem started a while back when I was playing L4D. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=817819 I figured it was probably just the iZ3D driver I had installed. I uninstalled it and that seemed to remedy it. A few months later I purchased Diablo II and played it with much enthusiasm only to encounter similar problems. e.g. icons were replaced by ingame weapons and items, letters were flipped/changed/not there. This happened to me constantly so I gave up on it and busied myself with other games. Up until yesterday when my dad received The Saboteur for Christmas, we hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary. The game froze for about 30 seconds or so and when it continued running again, the screen was covered in shapes and colours. So much so that the game was unplayable. After restarting the game it was fine for another 5 or 10 minutes until he ran into the same problem. Later that night I purchased Braid from Steam and had much of the same problem. For me to be able to properly explain my problem I managed to screen cap it in a rather sad state. The object circled in red is the character... Any suggestions? Here are my system specs
Post your temperatures http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
Post your temperatures http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
Speed fan can report false temps use HWMonitor. Post them playing the game for 10 mins.
I rarely get 10 minutes in... [editline]08:44PM[/editline] Alright, here's the temperature of my card after around 5 minutes when the graphics fucked up while playing Braid. The temp is around 75 most of the time. This reading is from the nvidia ntune menu.
Whatever, just play the game for a while and post your temps.
Are there any kinds of viruses that have this kind of effect?
Not that i know of.
ARRRRGGGGH! Nothing will fix the problem! I switched back to DirectX 9.0c, I uninstalled any questionable drivers, I got rid of Diablo and Diablo II, and I'm on the newest nvidia driver. As far as I know, 76 degrees is an acceptable temperature. Maybe I'll try downgrading the graphics driver. I did recently update it to 195.62
Well, do you have an antivirus program at all?
Yeah, I use AVG. It picks up pretty much anything wrong with the computer.
Then i really don't see the problem.. Is your CPU temperature alright?
I don't think heat is the issue. [editline]10:09PM[/editline] As far as I know, yes.
Get HWMonitor that was linked earlier. Leave it minimized while you play and post the MAX temps that it reports. It's more accurate.
Yeah, that's the best option right now.
Well there it is. Anything out of the ordinary?
Your CPU and GPU temperatures seem good. My only thought is that your GPU might be dying. Consider getting a new one if someone else can't think of problem.

You should replace the stock heatsink and fan with more cooling efficient ones, as I have always suggested
Well there it is. Anything out of the ordinary?
Crank up the fan on your graphics card a bit. 79C isn't dangerously hot, but trying pretty much anything is better than assuming your gpu is dead.
It could be a VRAM problem, the stored textures are getting scrambled and whatnot.
Crank up the fan on your graphics card a bit. 79C isn't dangerously hot, but trying pretty much anything is better than assuming your gpu is dead.
no it isn't how for a CPU maybe but GPUs can go 100+ before shit like this
My 8800GT also started doing this a while back (3-6 weeks ago) and it died completely this morning.
Yeah, we've had the card for 3-4 years and for the amount of stress we put on it it makes sense that it's dying. [editline]12:04PM[/editline]
http://tech.icrontic.com/articles/dead-8800-gtx-scienced-to-undeath-by-oven-mad-owner/ Read this, do it.
I may or may not try this at the discretion of my father. [editline]12:30PM[/editline] Looks like a no go, we're just going to get a new card.
It worked! I guess the card was just pooched.
It worked! I guess the card was just pooched.
What worked? This:
http://tech.icrontic.com/articles/dead-8800-gtx-scienced-to-undeath-by-oven-mad-owner/ Read this, do it.
?
Sorry I phrased that badly, buying a new card worked which means it was the card that had gone south. [editline]04:35PM[/editline] This thread can get closed now, thanks.
