So, this morning I woke my computer up from sleep mode as always, It worked like it should and when I was done, I put it to sleep again. But when I woke it up 10 minutes ago, I was greeted with a blue screen of death, and a reboot. When the computer was done POSTing, it went to a black screen with nothing but a blinking dash like the one you see in MS-DOS, for instance. I have no idea what has happened. I don't think it's a virus, since I have an anti-virus, use adblock in Firefox, and I mostly only browse sites like Facepunch, facebook, youtube and sometimes 4chan (:v) . So, halp? Also, pressing F8 doesn't do jack shit, other than the PC speaker making a click sound  [editline]20th December 2010[/editline] Wait, I recently heard about AVG making an update that fucks windows up....Have they done it again? Oh and yes, I know AVG sucks
1) System restore / safe mode why did i start numbering again [editline]20th December 2010[/editline] Try with the windows disc.
Well, I can't get to the safe mode menu, and I can't find my windows disc either. I do have a copy of the windows disc on my computer actually, but that doesn't help when the computer itself is broken :v:
put your hdd into another computer and burn the iso from that one. then put your hdd back in your own pc and boot from the dvd.
Yea I was considering doing that....But I just found out that my Windows disc is at a friends house, so I'm gonna get it tomorrow anyways...Let's see if I can fix it. I think the bootloader somehow broke, but that doesn't explain why it bluescreened...
This happened to me, I tried plugging out any USB cables and it booted up :v:

The Windows disc couldn't do jack shit, it couldn't even open my harddrive. Now I've installed Windows to my second drive, just as a temporary installation http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1041224-Help-me-get-my-files-back!?p=26904062#post26904062
can you access the first drive from the secondary drive install
Nope. Windows sees it as a "RAW" drive instead of an NTFS drive...
The filesystem is probably corrupt. I'm not sure what you can do.
The filesystem is probably corrupt. I'm not sure what you can do.
So far I've gotten some of my files back using some program. :v: But do you have any idea, why did it just corrupt like that?
failing hard drive? nasty virus?
Well I have now reformatted the harddrive, and it works perfectly...I didn't lose any data, but I could've lost them easily, since I didn't have a back-up. So this whole experience has been kind of a wake up call; Always have a recent backup on a second storage device :v:
