• Razer Carcharias microphone problem

I bought a Razer Carcharias headset a couple of days ago, and the headphones work fine, but the microphone is extremely quiet. I mean, the only way you can get it to pick up anything is by putting it inside your fucking mouth. If I max out the mic boost settings on Windows at +30dB you can hear fine, but at shit quality and with a very loud hissing. My main PC runs Win7 x64, but I tried it on a Vista x32 PC and it was the same problem. Both PCs have onboard Realtek sound Here's what I've tried, and I still got the same problem every time Switching between front/rear ports on PC Trying it on another PC with another version of Windows (and trying both front and rear ports on that PC as well) Installing proper sound drivers instead of the generic Windows ones Fiddling with the volume/mute buttons on the cable thing So eventually I emailed Razer Support and they said it must be fucked and I should get a replacement. I got one from Amazon (I had to send the old one off so I don't have the first one anymore), and it just got here today, and it has the same problem. What the christ. Here is what I sent to Razer and their response
We are sorry it sounds like your product may be in need of an exchange. I have tried it on two different computers, one with Win7 x64, the other with Vista x32, and in both cases a max-volume recording of myself talking is virtually inaudible. If I turn on mic boost and put it at full volume I can hear myself, but with a very loud hissing. Background noises are also picked up very loudly on this setting. I have tried it in both the front and rear ports on both of the computers, and got the same results. I have also tried all different settings on the headset's in-line remote control and found no improvement. Originally one of the computers did not have its onboard sound drivers installed, but after installing them and restarting the PC, I found it made absolutely no difference to the problem. Help!
Google turns up a few threads on this problem, but they all taper off with no solution found. The only thing I can think of at this point is that it only works with XP or something, but this headset only came out in 2009. This is like the plot of an Agatha Christie novel or some shit
Seems like a software problem, open up input devices and click on the microphone, then click on properties. Find the tab that has a bunch of 'effects' (noise cancellation, echo cancellation, etc) you can apply to the microphone and turn them all OFF. Then make sure the microphone's input volume is turned up to 100%, if it is still too quiet then you must use the microphone boost feature. [editline]asd[/editline] Oh you can also try using a different audio input jack, the realtek i use lets me choose several different jacks for input.
