Upgrade RAM or CPU to improve performance in Photoshop/Paint Tool Sai?

Well chaps, it's that time again. Another motherboard has died on a family member, and she needs a working machine as soon as possible.
We're on an AMD x2 3800+ at the moment (2ghz dual core) and 1GB DDR2 667.
We can either go with a new motherboard and 2GB DDR2 800 for $200
or
New motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR3 for $300ish.
Would her art benefit more from an increased amount of RAM or a better CPU? Would it be worth spending more on the new setup or will she get the boost she needs to be able to work on A3 canvases just from the extra 2GB of DDR2 800?
Thanks so much.
I'd recommend getting more RAM for the mobo you already have, and probably getting a new/better CPU that'd work on the same socket your current mobo has.
Edit:
Should've read the first line.
Go with the second option, it's the best out of the two you gave us.
new motherboard, phenom II X4 955, 4 GB RAM for $300
