• Lots of low end computers!

Hey, My brother is working for a charity and he wants to get computers for their classrooms. They are in guatamala. He tells me that the classroom will be basically outside (we will need some epic dust filters), and all they will be using the computers for is web-browsing(look at pictures, videos, ect.), word processing(this includes excel, ect.). They will not need to be able to play games, just basic stuff. Budget is around 250-300, no monitor, os, or speakers needed. A CHEAP keyboard and mouse would be good. I dont think it will need a graphics card but he wants one...something super low end is more than enough(as long as its better than the motherboard video..). Thanks for the help guys! Really appreciate it. Oh. We need 15 computers, if that changes anything... Thanks, Joe
Got it. [editline]03:28PM[/editline] Wait are you going to buy it in America and then ship the parts to him?
15 computers on a 300$ budget? Whole computers? I guess I could try, but I'm certain it's not possible, maybe 5, but not 15.
Perhaps you should get some low end pre-builts from HP or Dell, I hate suggesting to buy them but they are OK with their low end stuff and will probably be cheaper buying in bulk.
15 computers for 300? or 300 per computer?
Total budget of 4500 or 300? The OP isn't very clear on the subject.
If the total budget IS 300 then what, where would you get 15 complete computers each for less then 30 dollars?
300 each computer. Sorry. Buying and building in America, shipping to him.
I think he means $300 for each PC if so, get 15 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103235&cm_re=acer-_-83-103-235-_-Product They don't need dust flters. [editline]03:44PM[/editline] Comes with keyboard and mouse as well.
I'd rather build them. It's really fun and I might get some community service hours for it.
Snip, Nevermind. Ninja'd by above poster..
Would it be possible for me to build them? I'd rather do that than buy prebuilts. It's more fun and I'd feel like I contributed more...
If you built them they'd be way bigger. Is shipping costs a problem?
I dont think it will be. Especially because im doing it (instead of my brother just buying from a big company) we are saving money...Its fine.
Also if you build them, they will need vents and be last Dot said, much, much heavier.

Yeah. Thats probably the best way. Building computers is just so much fun...Im sure all of you can understand that.
No he pointed it out.
Yes. I know it was posted a few posts above mine, I just wanted to reinforce the previous user's suggestion.
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=18266127 Get that.
Add one more stick of RAM and Windows 7 32 bit.
I like that build. Would it serve its purpose? Yeah more ram i agree. 2GB is plenty. That looks great. Thanks Marnetmar
Don't go Intel on low-ends. It fits my budget perfectly, and it seems like it would do everything i want (surfing the web, viewing videos on the web, ect.) Thanks guys!
go for it.
Remember kids, these are classroom computers. I think getting 1 GB RAM, a Sempron, and XP (or maybe even Linux) would be a better option
classroom computers in Guatemala... i kind of want them to be as future proof as possible...(even though they will just be surfing the web...). Might as well go overkill now.. thanks
Well you want to get something up to the budget that will last long so the build Muffin has is good. I would get this as it is quite a bit better and it is only $3 more. That is if you can afford it.
classroom computers in Guatemala... i kind of want them to be as future proof as possible...(even though they will just be surfing the web...). Might as well go overkill now.. thanks
that is future proof enough for just web browsing and word processing.
Hang on, it will be 1c more since you will be buying more than 10
