Every so often my local IP changes, causes my port forwarding to be off

So I local ip was 192.168.0.199, now it's 192.168.0.198 :argh:
This caused issues with programs and games that need portfowarding for tasks I need.
How can I prevent this from happening?
Maybe your ISP using DHCP server and thus blocking you from using static IP if you don't pay for one, i had that kind of ISP before.
I set up static IP and then at 00:00 DHCP tries to change my IP but can't because of manually set IP and i get disconnect from internet.
Glad my router had working uPnP so didn't need to set ports manually.

We're talking about a local static IP here. His ISP doesn't have anything to do with this.
Set up your computer to have a static IP in your router's address range. I have my router set up to give out addresses to a limit, and my IP is set to be above it.

Having a static IP requires you to specify a DNS too though. I recommend openDNS.

And the default gateway is your router IP, which is most likely 192.168.1.1

I recommend Google's DNS:
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Well I've never used GoogleDNS but it should work too
Alternate DNS servers are great to have. I use L3's DNS servers in CO (4.2.2.1 / 4.2.2.2) and they're pretty quick.
I'd recommend not using your ISPs DNS servers (especially Time Warner's) since they hijack invalid URLs with idiotic spam search pages, and in some cases even hijack valid URLs (like google and MSN) claiming they're invalid.

God yes, Time Warner's DNS servers are absolutely horrid. Google's DNS is what I use.
