Alright cool. Looks better than the one i was looking at.
That's a pretty bad PSU, but it's to be expected for $40. Unless you want to repeat the line "my PSU is not good enough to handle it" again sometime in the future, buy a better unit now.

Thats debatable, Seems the trend is moar power efficent PSUs.
What is not debatable is that the CM 'extreme' power's 70% efficiency is shit.

do i really have to argue about this again

this is like the 4th time
I don't suppose accepting that it's a crap PSU ever crossed your mind.
you've never owned one and you can only pull up this one source
[editline]06:15PM[/editline]
not only that i've never even heard of "hardware secrets"
You still think that the review is utterly null and void just because you haven't heard of it and because there are no others? They have carried out thorough tests, tests that the average user cannot carry out. You cannot say a PSU is good on the basis that "it didn't blow up, therefore it must be good". Absence of an immediate problem with the PSU is not an automatic guarantee that the unit is good.
that source could have easily made up all their results
[editline]06:34PM[/editline]
they could be biased against coolermaster

stop
I have a coolermaster PSU, fine, nothing has gone wrong with it, 520w for £40, bargain

They're not all created equal. Some CM PSUs are good, but this is cheap and nasty. And again, 'no apparent problems' doesn't auto-magically promote it to good PSU status. Failing altogether is not the only negative of a bad PSU. The efficiency is shit, the power is unstable and is inadequate for a decent gaming PC.
Made up all their results
This is gold.
HardwareSecrets has 100s of reviews, and you're sitting there expecting your word, which is based on nothing more than guess work and regarding a PSU that you have never owned holds more credibility than a 10 page review from a professional review site.

That is massive overkill
this is more appropriate and is more powerful than the coolermaster: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139003
Hopefully Hypnotoad hasn't gone and bought the CM ..
What PSU would be good for my PC..
Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz
2GB DDR2
HD2900
Three Fans
I'm in the UK.
Corsair CX 400
Do you already have those components?

The coolermaster would also work and that would work. Just don't listen to ferrus he is almost as bad as gpu companies in his power requirements.
antec 520w for 59.99 on newegg cant go wrong there
Get the CoolerMaster. There's nothing wrong with it.
/thread.

No, not /thread, arrogant git. There are several things wrong with the Coolermaster.

GPU companies aren't bad in their recommendations - they just have to make allowances for PSUs like this Coolermaster, other low grade PSUs and overloaded PCs.

all of which consist of you and your impossibly high standards
as usual your decision on how good a PSU is comes down to whether it's Corsair, Seasonic or Antec

According to this review
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/728
They do not put W anywhere after 500, because then, legally CM is never claiming that the PSU runs 500W max.

Nope.
My standards are not impossibly high because there are many good PSUs as well as poor ones. There are even some that cost very little more than this particular CM which are good. Ironically, the only person that has ever said "it's only good if it's Corsair, Seasonic or Antec" is you :downs:. If you want to know my view, it's that there are lots - much more than just three - brands that make generally top notch PSUs.
