How well does the ATi 4850 keep up with the 27" iMac

How well does the ati 4850 keep up running high demanding software (3ds max etc) . Or games such as World of Warcraft at the massive res of 2560 x 1440 of the iMac 27"does it just keep up or does it run well with no jitters/lag. Same question goes at the Ati 4670 version of the 27"
Also is it possible to run 2 extra displays off the iMac, for example have 2 20" in portrait mode on the left and right of the iMac. is there any plans for another refresh of the iMacs or do I have to wait for another year to see new gpu's/etc

I lol'd

yes high demanding software like 3ds max, or games like World of Warcraft. I never said that wow is a high demanding game.
the ATI 4850 would be fine but I'm not too sure about the ATI 4670.
as for updates, the iMac is approaching the end of it's cycle so an update is probably going to be next 2 months if not sooner.

ah good to know, I was thinking to get myself one after I get a job and purchase one after the refresh is out, as I would love a powerhouse (Core i5/i7) to have along side my gaming PC, and to use it for all my work/design work and in the occurance that I go to uni I would take the iMac with me + a netbook.
4850 won't do too well at 2560x1440.
for games, no. everything else, yes.

WoW lags on my 4850 - tell me it's not demanding and prove it D=<

Theres a difference between demanding and badly optimized.
And the resolution counts a lot, so the 4850 won't do well at 2560x1440 in games.
The 4850 is a good card, but not at huge resolutions like that... You would play WoW fine at 1080, with no problems at all. Macs are just not made for gaming. The 4850 in the iMac is the 512mb version too, so shit isn't like top-of-the-line..

If it plays it well at 1080, that is fine with me, WoW has a decent scaler so it isnt really strected at lower resolutions on big screens. Thanks for the help
I would wait a couple of months, they should be bumping the spec of the iMacs soon. They haven't had an update since they were released late last year.
the refresh should be in a month or two...

it's almost over the average cycle, a refresh is due any moment.
I think it's every 6 months isn't it?
I am surprised they used the Mobile 4850 with that resolution.

usually, sometimes they stretch the refresh gap to about 7~8 months.
but they have yet to update the 30" ACD... they might be waiting for a big Mac Pro update to launch them at the same time.

yeah it seems ridiculous. I'm kind of surprised they didn't start using desktop cards in it, since they managed to fit a desktop processor in there.
Is it possible to attach two extra monitors to the iMac? and I am hoping that the next refresh will bring with it either the 5series ati/nvidia 3/4** series, or a desktop 4870 in the iMac
I have that card, WoW runs great maxed at 1680x1050 for me.

New desktops and so on, shouldn't have a 4***, even though it's a good card...
