Yes, yes it does
Yes it has. Even Nintendo explained what they want to do with it. Attracting mostly the younger audience that can't afford a Switch yet with cheaper alternatives. And then getting them into the Switch.
The 3DS is also smaller and easier to manage than the Switch. When it comes to portable consoles, that makes it way more appealing for kids than lugging around a big tablet they're likely to break. Make the 3DS cheap, make the games cheap, and it's a great entry level Nintendo console.

Since the DS was so risky Nintendo wanted a safety fallback on the GBA they could return to, so they didnt want to say they were going to kill it. As soon as the DS started printing money, they dropped the GBA like the outdated junk it was. I hope the same doesn't happen here. The Switch, while really cool, is far too expensive and bulky to be the company's only portable console. The only other way to do it would be to drop the 3DS and make mobile phone games, but that's a crap idea.
The DS was backwards compatible with the GBA, though. Once the DS started outselling the GBA, there was no reason to keep the GBA around anymore. The same can't be said about the Switch and 3DS.
it just feels like to me its super dead/will be soon, with how little to none theres scheduled to come out this year, and basically nothing for the foreseeable future.
There would be no point in owning one as soon as animal crossing and smash are announced for the Switch, not to mentions rumors of mainline Pokemon games coming too.
