The general games section specifically said not to post threads like this there so I guess I fast threads is the place? Mods, move me please if I'm wrong.
So I'm looking for games that have team building akin to something like XCOM or Darkest Dungeon where I can create/recruit characters and then lead them, level them up, equip them, all that jazz. I was looking for games that had something like that but were action games though. I realized today that even though this kind of thing seems amazing, my massive steam games list doesn't really have anything that sounds like this. The closest thing I have to what I described is Mount and Blade which I already have and love to death. At the moment I'd prefer not to start playing a strategy or top down RPG, I'm really looking for a shooter or straight up action game of pretty much any kind. I really have no idea about any other games besides M&B though.
Dragon's Dogma? It's actiony, although RPG. I'm pretty sure you can have followers.

I have it but the quest system is really inaccessible. Also, since I made a similar thread on /v/ I feel I should point out I usually hate Japanese games. So before anyone feels the need to say Valkyria Chronicles is a great XCOM like, I've tried it. I hate it.
Dogma
Mass Effect
Undying

You're inhuman.
But I would suggest the first two Jagged Alliance games, if you don't mind old games (which your avatar says you don't). Perhaps UFO series for exact X-Com Clones?

Tried all these. Also tried Silent Storm. Atm I'm really looking for an action game though. I didn't think it would be this hard but apparently the hypothetical game I wanted doesn't exist.
mount&blade??
if you grab champions you can gear them up, set up their skills and shit
if you get a module like floris you can do it to your normal troops too
You should try Hidden & Dangerous 2, one of the best tactical team based shooters ever imo.
The old Rainbow Six games like Raven Shield and Rogue Spear are pretty good, it even has a bit in the mission planning where you can set up an entire plan for the mission that the NPC teammates follow, I remember playing it when I was younger and just decking everyone out in heavy armour and heavy weapons like MG's and higher calibre rifles and just rushing the buildings.
I've already got about 500 hours on Mount and Blade games. Already just reinstalled Raven Shield and Ghost Recon and have been replaying them since last night. Also I have been looking at Hidden and Dangerous 2 but I couldn't find it on any online stores. It's not on Steam, Origin, or GOG so I'm not sure where to get it.
Tf2 could work, you can get items for all 9 of the classes, but you can only control 1 character at a time, but you could play with freinds

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Already did 4 or 5 playthroughs.
I was going to suggest the older Rainbow Six 3 Gold n all them. (Old) Ghost Recon games perhaps?
I mean you've already covered the bases of some of the better known team action games. The only other one I can think of would be MechWarrior 4 and its expansions.

Mechwarrior 4 would be good but I wouldn't know where to get it. It's also not on Steam/Origin/GOG.
EDIT: Think I found a copy actually.
Disgaea is pretty great for something like this I guess?
Like you have the main cast that you level up but there are other classes that you can create and give them their own name like Ninjas,Mages,Demon Hunters and Mage Knights.
You can either buy it on Steam or download a emulator to play it. Also is turned based but the over-the-top animations for the attacks are pretty action-like.

Can't deal with anime looking shit.

KOTOR 2? SWTOR/KOTFE?

I can't get into KOTOR 2. The beginning is too weak.
that's fair
Have you tried the Wizardry games? The slow turn-based combat might not be your thing if you're specifically looking for action.
swat 4 is pretty good
SWAT 4
I'd love to try SWAT 4 but again, no idea where to find it since it's not on any online stores as far as I know.
