• Serious graphical artifacting, need help.

I was playing Champions Online when it started artifacting and crashed, no biggie I thought to myself, I'll just restart the client.. Then came this madness. My computer bluescreened and started artifacting, the artifacts weren't just in-game though.. They were all over my monitors. I can no longer log into Windows without bluescreening, the artifacts change depending on what stage of booting I'm on. I can rule out: Connections, I have plugged and replugged everything inside and outside my computer. All connections are secure. Monitor problems, the artifacting persists throughout both my monitors. I fear the worst, I really can't afford a new graphics card or a new anything else right now..
Sir, I think you just fucked your cpu/gpu gonna post pics of my dads pc after a cpu fuck
Christ.. I can't afford a new CPU/GPU. Is there any way I could test for what's fucked up? [editline]12:44PM[/editline] I can boot into safe mode but the artifacting persists.
Post temps both load and idle. http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php . Looks like your graphics card overheated and fried itself. Try letting it sit for awhile.
Had similar thing on my old 7xxx nvidia card, it fried and later broke to not responding at all...
Yup my old 9800 did that after the fan died and it overheated.
Well I have an 8800gtx, it idleas at around 60 degrees and goes up to 80 under load.
Well if you let it sit for awhile and still doesn't work you fried your card and you need a new one.
Your best hope is that the monitor cable fucked up. I think it's the GPU.
Is there any way I can be absolutely sure it's the GPU? I don't want to shell out for a new one and then have the problem persist.
Is there any way I can be absolutely sure it's the GPU? I don't want to shell out for a new one and then have the problem persist.
check bluescreen error code / message, borrow someones gpu or try an old gpu. etc.
Is there any way I can be absolutely sure it's the GPU? I don't want to shell out for a new one and then have the problem persist.
Let it sit for a couple hours and try again, if you don't see changes, it bit the dust.
Your card has almost died. I had exactly this. (blue lines on screen) I fixed it by baking it.
I had a milder case of this with my 8800GTX After I got a replacement GTX260 I read that putting it in the oven fixes some issues like this. So, anyways, I did it and it worked. Gas mark 5.5 for 8 minutes. You need to remove the whole heatsink, Pics of mine below. Anyways, I've been running the card now for a few weeks and I haven't had a single error yet. My GTX260 is in it's box upstairs.
You're kidding, right? :v: It's been sitting for a few hours now and the problem is persisting but I'm no longer blue screening. However, it seems as though my computer no longer recognises the graphics card. I can no longer use both monitors, Aero is disabled and the nVidia control panel is not appearing. I tried re-installing the graphics drivers but that did squat. Why are you using your 8800GTX over the 260 anyway? Surely the 260 is better?

People accutally put their GPU's in the oven. It re-solders most of the connections sometimes fixing it.
Right, I'm going to have to order a new GPU then. How's this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-015-SK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1410
Solder Reflow, There is a massive thread on it on a forum somewhere... Also I'm now using my 260, But I used my 8800 for like 2-3 weeks just to make sure it was fixed permanently. Well, there's nowhere around here that sells thermal paste and I can't reallly be bothered to buy some from the internet. I needed a graphics card upgrade anyway.
Or you could buy some thermal paste with your new graphics card and sell it once it's fixed.
That's what I was thinking but I want to be 100% sure it's the graphics card before I buy a new one. The problem is I have no spare parts or anything.
I think I have the same problem.
This is what the artifacts looked like to me in Windows, In my BIOS it was like, wavy horizontal lines.
That's exactly what I have.

I was able to capture the artifacts when I booted into safe mode as well.
Well you definitely fried it. I did that to my 8800GTX a few weeks ago.

Yes, I am now seriously in debt to my grandmother. Being the saint she is, she lent me some money to get my computer back up and runing because she knows how important it is to me.
