• 5870 power requirement?

Anyone have an idea of what kind of PSU you'l need to run one of these?
is the ATI 5 series out yet?
Won't be any more than what it would take to run a 4870, hopefully less.
You shouldn't need much more power than what you need right now with ATI's current high-end GPUs. I imagine you'd be safe with a decent 600W power supply. Not sure if you plan to crossfire.
Are you building a computer right now Ajacks? Heard the rumors about the Core i5? Its one step down from an i7, but in a better price range. Might be worth waiting for. Its supposed to be released in September, around the same time as the new ATI cards.
I've only got a 500w psu >:
A good-branded 500W will be enough for a single 5870. Hell, my Cooler Master 430W (which is average) holds my 9800GTX+ OC'd and a E8400 OC'd. So I'm sure a good 500W will hold 5870 without a problem.
Somewhere around what it takes to run a 4870.
probably like 200-300 watts load
probably the card itself like 200-300 watts load
hahaha
So is the 5 series out?
So is the 5 series out?
Nope.

Smaller Die means you'll have less power consumption, right?
Smaller Die means you'll have less power consumption, right?
yep
So, since you guys are saying around the same power as a 4870, would the 5870x4 need four times the power?
Well go look up the power for a 4870 and then 4870x2 and you can tell us if it scales that way.
2x6 pins
