Time to try it I guess
It's not so bad. It feels less like WoW than most other MMOs, and the Lord of the Rings settings is quite nice. I suppose it can occupy me until the GUILD WARS 2 BETA WEEKEND EVENT THIS WEEKEND!
This is pretty much your by the numbers MMO here in case anyone is wondering. Personally though I think it has better PvE as I find the world more open and interesting and there are more interesting quests than I've typically seen in these bland type MMOs. And it's not free to play entirely. You essentially have to pay at least a few microtransactions after level 20. It's worth it if you enjoy the game up to that point.
good i hear it's balanced in pvp
Its not a bad mmo, but its a "pay to progress". You could avoid paying by doing some ungodly amount of grind to earn the "deeds" which give you the paid currency (turbine points). And just like any other MMO, it's so much better when playing with friends.
I've been wanting (and tried) to get into this MMO several times, but for some reason it just doesn't have such an appeal to me other than fucking around with the Music system. Nothing like terrorizing the ears of travelers with clarinetspam. [sp]This video has no clarinetspam[/sp]
Not available in Estonia yet again... Stay classy
I played this game for 2 days, didn't quite like it, but I don't like the MMORPG genre either that much. I made a Halfling-whatever-the-race-is Burglar (Rogue). Sort of liked the gameplay and sort. I just don't enjoy the levelling process which takes several months to reach maximum lvl, but that's just me. Not bad at all, I would recommend trying it out if you're into MMORPG's.
I use to play this a lot before and after it went "F2P" and I enjoyed it a lot, guess I can give it another go seeing as there's a new expansion coming out soon.
Frankly, my favourite part about LotRO was the music system, and still is. The outfit system is really cool, too. Wish other MMOs would catch up to that sort of thinking.
I played it when it first went to ftp. You have to buy zone packs to unlock quests, a bit retarded if you ask me. I got to around level 20, then gave up. This post thread actually reminded me to delete it off my hard drive. Cheers Steam.
On a scale from No - Yes, is this game P2W?
No. It's pay to progress seeing as the game is mainly PVE oriented.
My favorite MMO finally on Steam! LOTRO has the best payment model imo
On a scale from No - Yes, is this game P2W?
Unless they changed it again you can also have a normal subscription like WoW and TOR and not have to bother with zone pack things.
A Hobbit? :P
Yea. I have seen all the movies and read the books, but still I forget what they're called...
Im glad they made this game F2P because before I got it I was going to get World Of Warcraft, but when I realized how much I absolutely hate grinding quests, so I gave up at level 16, uninstalled and eliminated any chance I would get WOW.
In term of gameplay, is it more in the line of WoW or Global Agenda?
This is a regular MMO. Global Agenda is a totally something else

I've never tried this, but didn't this tank years ago?
Steam is like a retirement home for MMOs.
How's the roleplaying community in this one then? Not like this, I hope: "I am Fuzroda, the great mighty hobbit! Behold my gear, as it is rare!"
Steam is like a retirement home for MMOs.
steam never got f2p star wars galaxies. my memories will last forever, because I still believe that was the best mmo of all time.
That's because SWG never went F2P. I think at most it stopped taking subscriptions and let people who were already subbed play the last couple of months for free Pre-CU though, best MMO ever
This game has been f2p for quite a while now. Give it a whirl if you like LotR.
