I'm tired of not being able to play any more demanding games than source-games with my current laptop, so I've decided to build a new computer. I don't have a large budget, however, and therefore I'm making a thread here, so that you guys could recommend me a good build that gives me the most bang for the buck.
I'm mostly going to be using it for gaming and watching/downloading TV shows (So I'll need a larger HDD, like 500 gb). The games I'd like to play are the new games that all the cool kids are playing on at least low/medium settings with decent fps. Games like Arma II, Borderlands, APB e.t.c.
My budget isn't large unfortunately. I'd rather have something in the 250$ area (2000 sek/kr), but if that isn't possible then I can save for another 100$ (3000 sek/kr). I can upgrade it every 6 months or so, so you needn't worry too much about it lasting for years ahead.
I live in Sweden, and I'd like it if you could pick parts from this site: http://www.inet.se/ as you can get free shipping from there, but I'm ok with any other site that ships to Sweden, as long as the shipping costs aren't too high.
My current monitor is a 19" one, pretty old, but I'm going to replace is at soon as I have the money with another slightly larger one, perhaps 22". I don't need an OS, keyboard or mouse.
Thanks in advance, hopefully someone can recommend me a good build :=)
Save more money
I don't think 300$ will be enough to have a gaming computer for playing Bordelands, Arma II, etc...

Maybe Source games for the better, but clearly not your games you have quoted
uh, not going to happen
A decent ranged video card is around that price range. You can't build a complete PC for that price. maybe post current specs and see what we can help you with.
You're going to need the equivalent of $500 if you want anything that is at least half decent. 250-350 is not realistic in my opinion and it would be a waste of money more than anything else.
it can be done. depends on where you shop and who you know that can get what you need "under the table"
@melindagreen
If you want 1 FPS, then sure.
Save up $700.
Save up $400

not bad at all
Woah nice.

I'd pay a bit more and get a triple core.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103843&Tpk=x3%20440
That motherboard only has 2 ram slots, it would be a good idea to upgrade to 4gb sometime in the future, but then he'd have to take out the old sticks.
Also he's from Sweden, he won't get the newegg combo deals.
OP lives in Sweden. Pretty sure Newegg won't ship that far.
Well, they probably will, but it'll cost a shitload.
thats tough.... You can get an ok graphics card and an ok processor for about $300-$400. :( sorry but technology is expensive especially P.C. gaming. If you want something that can surf the web and watch movies on something that is less clunky than Windows, go to your local computer building store they are a huge help with what parts fit and what dont. NO SHIPPING COSTS, and you can usually get a little desktop that can run Ubuntu 10.04 or Fedora. Hope this helps
it can be done. depends on where you shop and who you know that can get what you need "under the table"
Thats depends becuase NO ONE PIRATES ILLEGAL COMPUTER PARTS THAT WOULD JUST MAKE YOU SEEM LIKE SOME PIRATEY COMPUTER FAG.
Support your local computer shops! now anything you buy from there brand new is going to be somewhat on a pricy side compared to what you can afford for a full system. Second hand or refurb units however will be perfect for you i am sure you could pick up a dual core 2GB of ram with say a 320GB hard drive, Dvd drive and all that good stuff. I could probably find a system around that area for £100 maybe if its a refurb.
Thats what $140 thats about half your budget and then what you should do is get some decent cooling and overclock that cpu :) then get a Gcard and you will be set to play games for a little while under that system for what will possibly come in at around your budget or under it.

Is prolly your best shot, my friend has one, he maxes WoW at a good framerate (maybe 30-40 fps in ICC25)

The graphics card is shit, i doubt it could even max WOW like you said.
OP, save up some more money, it's definitely worth it.
Well, I was looking around at some used computers after you guys said building a computer like that for the price would be impossible. I found a computer for approximately 330 dollars, with these specs:
Antec Nine Hundred black midtower, with window
Silver Power PSU, 600W
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.67GHz 1333Mhz Socket LGA775, 4MB BOXED with fan
Asus P5K, P35, Socket-775, DDR2, ATX, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4gb CL5 Kit w/two matched CM2X1024A-6400 Dimm's
Samsung SpinPoint T166 250GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM
XFX GeForce 8800GTS 650M 512MB GDDR3, PCI-Express 2.0, 2xDVI/HDTV/HDCP,650Mhz
Picture of the computer:

On top of that I get this 19" screen:

I know this doesn't have much to do with PC building, but is the computer worth it? In my eyes it certainly seems so. I could upgrade something if required for the games I want to play.

Of course it's worth it. It's a C2D and the GPU is slightly outdated, but for that price, AND you get a monitor it's worth it of course.
Buy it and sell it for more, then get something better
[editline]04:02AM[/editline]
unless you're set with that
Well, I am set with that, I think. Do you think it'll run most of today's games at least on medium/low? Or do I have to make an upgrade? In that case, what should I upgrade, the CPU or the GPU?
I figure buying that and upgrading it will be cheaper than to just build it from new parts. Especially considering I get a monitor.
Upgrade the GPU to something like a 5770
Upgrade the GPU to something like a 5770
Wouldn't be a big enough upgrade to justify buying it.
Mindtwistah, i think the CPU and GPU are pretty much balanced right now, you'd have to upgrade them both to get a good performance boost. You could easily overclock that CPU though, getting over 3GHz should be a breeze. That's actually quite a good deal you're getting, it should be able to play most games on medium-high settings, depending on the resolution of that monitor.

I don't recommend this. The PSU is worrying, and the 8800 GTS 640MB is very dated and slow now. I suggest saving up.
I don't recommend this. The PSU is worrying, and the 8800 GTS 640MB is very dated and slow now. I suggest saving up.
It's the g92 512MB version, it's probably about as powerful as a 4770 or a 4830. That's nowhere near slow. You can't expect to get a computer with a high-end card for 300$, it's just impossible.
OP, it's a very good deal, especially because you also get a monitor with it.
Oh my mistake. That's pretty decent.
You could upgrade that build with a core2 quad and a better GPU and it would be very good
God damn, it was sold today, and I had the money ready and everything :saddowns:
Well, got a new budget, 400$ (3000 sek), I could possibly borrow another 500 sek if needed. I'm checking out the build pebkac posted, going to try and find the parts on Swedish sites.

This is the build a friend and I have come up with so far:

http://www.inet.se/artikel/6909437/corsair-vx-450w-80-
Total: 3720
It's still a bit too expensive, I dumped the dvd drive to bring down the price a bit since I barely use dvd's anyway. Any suggestions on cheaper/more efficient parts?
