• Doing a Demonstration Speech on How to Build a Computer

Any ideas? I'm obviously not actually going to build an entire computer (speech length has to be less than 10 minutes). I need a few visual aids so I was thinking of bringing in a mobo and maybe explaining where to plug in the parts and such.
how are you supposed to do that in ten minutes?
I think the real question is how would you fill up the last five?
Bring in one of those toys where you put the pegs in the holes as a metaphor.
Powerpoint is the way to go
Bring some Lego.
Speedbuild one.
Speed computer building.
I could tear down and my pc and rebuild it in ten...reapplying heatsink paste and all

I can build a computer and install windows XP in three minutes.
I could tear down and my pc and rebuild it in ten...reapplying heatsink paste and all
That'll be hard to do in the time limit. Just tell them that stock heatsinks have the paste pre-applied and you just have to stick it on.
Just bring everything except the case and put it all together. Bring the I/O shield too just so that they know what it is.
Power Point. Don't risk breaking any parts.
Slap them across the face and tell them to visit http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/pc-building/
Do an example on old parts that you may have from a broken computer? My friend has like 3 motherboards not working just stacked on his shelf. I'd say take a load of macro images of the pins ect and display on powerpoint. It doesn't take a lot to explain. You should also mention that it's much more simple than people think it to be. Most items have bespoke sockets and therefore you can't really put anything where it shouldn't go.
