• Kitten Injury, will it get infected?

I have two cats, ones a male kitten, and one is a fully grown female cat. When they meet my female cat often becomes very hostile towards my kitten and tries to swat towards it's face, hiss and run off, usually harmlessly. However they met again after my frequent efforts to keep them apart, my female cat hissed and did it's thing but it caught it's claw on my kittens face, just under the ear. It bled for a few seconds, and it's around half a centimeter deep. I wanted to know if it will get infected, or will it simply heal by itself if left alone? And should I wash it with water?
I have no idea about your question, but do you keep them together/allow them to walk around with no restrictions? If you have one cat first you're supposed to keep the new cat in a room away from the first/bigger/more hostile cat and then put away the first cat and allow the new cat to roam around and scent the place up then seperate them again until the first cat is comfortable.
Hm. Definitely wash it with water. Nothing else though because using anything with chemical may hurt the kitten. Unless the cat that swatted at him is an outdoor cat, then I wouldn't be TOO worried about infection. Just keep an eye on it for a little while. Injuries like these usually clear up after about a week or two. So just watch it for a few days. If it seems to be getting worse, then you'll want to drop by the vet for some anti-biotics. Hope that helps at all.

Also, if there's ANY possible way to keep it maybe wrapped in some gauze or medical wrap, try to do so. It'll keep dirt and whatnot out. If not though, then that's alright. But it would definitely help.
you'll have to amputate whatever body part the injury is on
No not the kitten :( clean the wound and take it to the vet.

Is there any way they can learn to live together with it being this late, or can only time tell from here on out? Also, I haven't yet taken my kitten to the vet or neutering, when I got him the previous owner took him for a check-up and he was health. But should I take him now to have a check-up, look at the injury and get him neutered, or wait it out a little longer?
Hmm, best way to get the kitties to like each other is to feed them treats when they're around each other and they behave. They'll end up realizing that when they're nice around each other, they get rewarded. I don't know TOO much about cat behavior, but cats ARE trainable, so I would figure that this would work. And yes, if you don't plan on having him father any kittens, get him neutered asap. He'll be healthier in the long run and it'd be good to get that taken care of while you have the injury looked at. Good luck, and keep us updated!
It may cause cancer and is some cases headcrabs. No, do what people above me are saying, wash it and if possible keep him inside until the healing process is started. (new layer of skin) Though, i don't think it'll get infected even if you let him go outside.
Thankyou for the replies, really helped. I'll wash the wound with a bit of water, keep him inside until it heals, get him looked at & neutered and try what Pascall said to get the felines to love each over.
Poor cat.
My cat had the exact thing. Same spot too. His never got infected but you might want to keep a eye on it anyways, better safe then sorry. On a side note, my cat kept scratching his until it got larger and larger. Eventually we got a cone for him. I started calling him conehead and he started giving me evil looks.
You're the Doctor, aren't you supposed to know?
