Hope they're gonna have some good news in the near future.
I still don't fully understand why LucasArts doesn't seem to be involved at all. Star Wars is their intellectual property, pretty much, and I guess they gave EA and Bioware free reign for whatever reason, but don't they still have some sort of say in anything?
if they go F2P I hope they have good benefits for those who Sub.
I like how the SN article keeps it real classy and formal when the truth is TOR was a massive flop that got like 75% of a studio fired and is now one of the reasons EA stock is the cheapest it has been in more than a year
I don't really know how it's going to turn out. If they don't go F2P they'll probably just keep losing subs, but if they do go F2P it will probably end badly because all EA F2P games are shitty and pay2win.
If you're going to have a subscription, don't fucking charge a full release price for the game itself. Only a fucking idiot will pay £30 for swtor now.
Watch it goes F2P and all the voice audio is turned off until you sub.
i would totally play it if it was a well done free to play game
As a buy once game it's p decent. Maybe because I only played with 4 other people during the free month but I definitely feel like I got a good experience for my $50.
The problem is the subscription fee. Not only is it an outdated concept but there was nothing to pay for when the game came out and for months afterward.
Should have launched without a sub fee and with microtransactions ala Guild Wars 2 imo.
I tried out the game since we now get to go to level 20 for free or whatever and it was really boring. Right out of the bat it was just fetch quests and kill x amount of people quests. God I miss SWG
Watch it goes F2P and all the voice audio is turned off until you sub.
atleast it'll save downloading 20ish gigs
The problem is that he's looking in the wrong direction. People would gladly pay a fee if the game was very good from the start.
I mean, this should be "EA boss admits that making The Old Republic a good MMO is "challenging" "
I think it should be like Guild Wars that if you buy it once, that's it. No subscription fees. You just buy it and play it online. Something that should be adopted by other MMOs. Most MMOs either follow the subscription model or the micro-transactions, both are which not good. If more MMO's adopted "no-pay" procedures, then most MMO's would be treated with less hate. TOR currently had a lot of hate going on it for its model, and there's not much content on it that would keep people paying for it.
Free-to-play cheapens IP
You're almost forced to be F2P these days, and even then your success is up in the air as to what you sell and how good the game is without the fee. Everyone's favorite MMO will be their first, it's hard to move onto another from there. If not because you're suddenly back at square one, than because the community aspect will never be the same again as you leave all your friends you made behind in the last MMO. The people with the time to play 2 MMOs don't have the money and the people with the money to play 2 MMOs don't have the time, so everyone is going to stick with their first until it dies one day. And World of Warcraft isn't likely to die any day soon.
Making MMOs in general are death traps. I'm surprised developers keep trying.
The only MMO I'd ever pay a monthly fee for is WoW. I remember it being good, I could be wrong though because I haven't played it in awhile.
Sucks imo, it is a decent game. Just had a really, really, really bad start. It should have been delayed for a while till it was completely finished.
I would hate to see it in a f2p model simply because the lack of content there is, i can't imagine how much they would cut out for free players.

I was in the testing program as early as October. We never got to try any endgame PVE content or even high (40+) content, though supposedly "another test group" was working on it. There was a planned PVE testing phase for flashpoints and raids sometime in November but that got pushed back and then ultimately canceled. Looking back I wonder if not testing it was some measure to not let people get early impressions of content that was clearly going to be unfinished by the games early release date.
... and now Obsidian will swoop in and save the day with KotOR 3.
:c
How about admitting your game is fucking awful and your arrogance is permanently costing you customers.
I don't think its awful. I have a lot of fun in it.

Honestly TOR is fun as hell, but it gets boring after a while.
Is this the game where they acted like there was a limited quantity of digital pre-orders?
i would totally play it if it was a well done free to play game
but we all know whats going to happen

I'm still mourning the loss of what was an amazing free to play game when all of the sudden, after a taste of success, EA got greedy as fuck and the game took a 180 turn towards pay 2 win.
I like how they then proceed to use the same awful model for the free 2 play Battlefield (I haven't heard of that shit in months) which doesn't seem to be doing well either.
So they finally admit it's a failure.
Good, maybe next time they'll polish a game, add more content and only then release it.
Watch it goes F2P and all the voice audio is turned off until you sub.
I got an imagination for that.
The only MMO I'd ever pay a monthly fee for is WoW. I remember it being good, I could be wrong though because I haven't played it in awhile.
Playing WoW seems to be exactly the same as playing just about any other MMO, the only ones that comes to mind which aren't WoW reskinned are EVE and Runescape.
Draw what you will from that.
Regarding TOR's sub, I was actually half-considering it until my friend mentioned the fact that you have to pay full price for it, THEN subscribe. Plus there was no trial, though I guess at release that's okay.

obsidian had plans for kotor 3 but they were totally scrapped for TOR

I've been playing this game non-stop since early Closed Beta, don't remind me. ;_;

SWTOR is lots of fun with a decent guild. Helping everyone progress to better gear as a whole, math to work out better skill trees, gear ect... End game is fine as long as you have a guild and aren't a selfish ass who's only out to gear yourself.
Also the game shouldn't of been released until 1.2
I like SWTOR because I actually follow the story and the character development is really good. Playing with other people makes it really fun too. Too bad there's like 5 people per planet.
