• Will this build work? Can you make it cheaper?

So i'm in the market to buy a new computer, and soon, and I'd rather build my own. This is my first (and probably only) custom build. So, here's my info, let me know if yuo think this build will work or if you can make it cheaper, but comparably as good. Requirements: Must be under $1,000 USD (I know this is a bit much, but I want good base parts, that I can upgrade or expand upon) All parts must be buyable from newegg.com I do light gaming, Source games mostly, but I also like to write programs, so a good CPU is highly preferred. I'm perfectly happy with around 300GB of space. I would like to leave room for upgrading when I get more money to buy better parts. I will have this computer for a long time to come, so durable parts are a big plus. I will need to buy Windows 7. I already own the following items, I'm not buying new ones: Monitors (I have 3 I can use that I'm happy with) Keyboard/Mouse DVD-ROM Drive CD-RW Drive Here's the build I have in mind, but before I purchase anything I'd like to make sure it'll all work, or if anyone here can make it cheaper yet comparatively as good. He doesn't need to spend twice as much on a motherboard over the one I listed. Two 5770s do perform pretty well, though.
ferrus build is obviously the coolest one in here
I'm liking your build Ferrus, but I'd like to go with an i7 processor if I can.
Why? Do you actually have a good reason or are you just assuming the i7 is better because it has a higher number? If we recommend an i5 you can rest assured it's for a very good reason.
I'll take your word for it. I honestly don't know much about hardware, but when I first started looking a few of my irc buddies said it was better to go with the i7 instead.

Notice they have benchmarked it at 4GHz as well - this overclock is actually not that hard to attain with a decent CPU cooler. If you don't want to overclock, the cooler supplied with the CPU is perfectly adequate. If you do, then we can recommend a good one.

All other cpus used are stock i7 920 can match 4.13 and more
What are you talking about? It has stock i5 on the benchmarks as well. If you'll notice the i5 is only fractionally slower, and the i7 is definitely not fractionally more costly.
Hoiw's this look? http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=18220468 Changes: Picked a nicer case, I don't mind spending a little extra on that. Switched the video card and power supply to the one from my original build. Added some thermal compound :P Got it down to USD $782 and I'm pretty happy with that.

I don't plan on playing the most recent, top of the line games. Being poor has tought me to wait a few years before even considering getting a recent game.

Also, OP you picked a h55 mobo. h55 was made for lower end i5s and i3s to use their integrated graphics. Go for a p55. And you managed to pick a way overpriced 5770 go with this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127476
Mmm, thanks for the find on the card. How's this look for a p55? It's cheap and nasty, and over priced. The 300 is better. Stay away from Rosewill PSUs. Do not buy cheap power supplies. You don't need thermal compound and even if you did you would not buy Arctic 5. Never base a purchase on the user review score alone, as unfortunately, although some may know what they're talking about, the final score is nearly always contaminated by prejudiced, ignorant and sometimes plain retarded people. If you want a review on a product, read a professional review from several review sites.
