• Invisible files on my External HDD?
    5 replies, posted
I just reformatted my computer and before that I backed-up some of my files, when I opened up the External HDD the files were there, I closed the window and decided to transfer them later, when I opened it up again they were gone but I know they're there because the hard drive still displays the correct free space, I've tried the usual, showing hidden files and operating files, I even tried some cmd commands, if anybody knows how to resolve this please do tell.
Download spacemonger, it displays what's using the space on your hard drive
Windirstat Also, at Control Panel go to Folder Options. You can make hidden (system) files visible there.
windirstat shows nothing, I ran chkdsk /r on the drive but it keeps saying that there is an insufficient amount of memory on it unfortunately I can't move any files out since they're invisible, so is there a way to change the output folder of chkdsk?
Did you use some type of backup utility to back up the data? Such as one that the external drive came pre-loaded with or another service. Or did you manually copy and paste the files to the external drive.
It was a copy and paste.
