116 characters with different designs and stories while still trying to be tied together is one difficult task. Heck in Dota it's just written off as "..and then Elder Titan and came and fucked all these universes up and brought everyone together."

Why does the lore even matter
Why does the lore even matter
Lore does matter but when it takes priority over balance or fighting the more asshole parts of your community, you might need to check your priorities again.

You can't say "stop making champions and start fixing the servers" or in this case, stop writing lore and start working on game balance or community relations. It's like I'm on gamefaqs or some shit. You can't tell a technician to do a designer's job and vice versa, that's not how companies work.

Not to mention the vocal community keeps complaining about not enough lore on Reddit and the official forums so really it's Riot delivering.
You guys are acting as if they are putting their whole team into fixing the lore. They have different teams for different jobs.
Lore does matter but when it takes priority over balance or fighting the more asshole parts of your community, you might need to check your priorities again.
Because all of riot's staff works on one thing.
Because all of riot's staff works on one thing.
It is the duty of 100~ people to write lore now.
i really don't think the guys in charge of game balance/community management are gonna drop everything and work on the lore. how is trying to fix the lore prevent the other stuff from being fixed exactly?
I understand they have different departments doing different stuff. I'm not sure which department does what, but the oceania server has been up for a few months now and still not a tribunal yet, so all reports are worthless and people are just doing what they want, oceania is a horrible place to play right now. :v: I do like the lore though, I hope it intersects nicely. They should really make an animated movie.

I don't really get how they can write any decent stories that make sense with the gameplay. The new bloke with the guns is supposed to really hate that boney fella but you can still play them on the same team and it makes no difference. Sorry, I don't know their names.
Lucian is the gun bloke and Thresh is the boney fella Lorewise they would be forced to fight together because they were summoned by summoners to fight

Sorry, I don't know their names.
It's stories outside of the actual League. Extremely powerful magic wards and protective spells keep people on the same team from hurting each other, similar to how death isn't permanent. Their inspiration for helping each other is potentially getting off the field faster so they can get back to killing one another outside of the League. Speaking of that, I've actually thought about it and am curious if they'd ever consider retiring some heroes that aren't particularly popular via story. Because they get killed by other champions, they retire, they just plain disappear, etc.. I doubt it'd ever happen, but it'd open up some potential story tracks for some characters.
"Oh hey Trundle's blue instead of green now that's cool let's get ganked the fuck out of anyway"
Ah marketing. This article is rather hilarious considering Riot gives a flying fuck about ANY kind of storytelling to begin with. The multiverse angle was created so they could literally get away with sticking anything they could copy from another popular venue and not get sued into oblivion or have to concede a gameplay or character concept because it made no sense to include. Kind of ironic they call it "the marvel effect" cause that's actually where a good chunk of their incredibly derivative and steal-tastic "character design" comes from. It's also a completely fake problem designed to generate interest (and since it's being reported on, I guess it was successful), the massive massive MASSIVE majority of players do not give the remotest flying fuck about lore in this game, and never did, and never will. They play because it's a super ultra simplified version of the competitive paradigm found in fighting games without any of the platform specific and super demanding hassles of spacing, timing, and having to have reflexes so fast and honed it seems like a pro player is actually predicting the future in real time over and over again. It ain't rocket surgery. It's a fake problem with a game that doesn't even give a shit about story to begin with, and the reason they don't give a shit about story is their characters are actually other games and entertainment vehicle given a slight coat of paint that literally would NOT stand up to scrutiny in a court of law, which is why you don't see out-of-game LoL merchandising to begin with.... and that's probably the reality of what this is actually about. They'd like to see some angry birds and minecraft money in other venues without being sued to hell and back for pretty obvious copyright infringement, so they can start pumping out licensed crap from other vendors in the same fashion.
Question 27X, do you even play LoL?
It's also a completely fake problem designed to generate interest (and since it's being reported on, I guess it was successful)
It's a comment in their forums. If you are browsing the forums, you are already interested in the game. It's just that PCGamesN decided to write about it for some reason.

Of course not. You don't care about lore, thus the company doesn't care about it. You don't think there's a lore problem without any standards for said lore, thus the problem is made up and RIOT sinks so much time and effort into it. For the lulz. It's not like fanbase nurturing has become highly important media in general and multiplayer games especially because it brings people together and diminishes the after-effects of ingame toxicity. It's not like building up proper character relationships makes the game feel more alive or is a healthy basis for fanart and speculation, whereas convoluted consistency stretched across multiverses (not anachronism stew!) creates an impenetrable barrier for newbies in addition to the famous general MOBA gameplay learning curve. Of course not. You got perfect insight into the psychology of both devs and fans since you're clearly heavily overlapping with both groups. Since MOBAs are so heavily based on fighting games and most definitely not on RTS it's clear that the character backgrounds should extend to the amount usual for the fighting game genre. It's also well-known that MOBAs rose to their popularity because of the previously completely ignored pro-player-wannabe demographic, and not because of character variety as broken down previously. Urgh. I'm sorry, I had a sincere reply typed out before this, but FP ate it. I never even played LoL a lot or liked it that much, but jeez this guy just triggered some nerd rage mechanism in me. TL;DR Lots of people play MOBAs for character variety, which needs to be matched in lore and mechanics to be most effective across all demographics.

As much as I despise Riot, reading ignorant posts in this thread hurts me.
