logically they should partner with nvidia since they have 80% marketshare and loadsamoney to give people.
I say this as a current 970 user: good. Nvidia is slacking off and need to be kept in check by some form of market competition. If this is what will give AMD the competitive edge they need, then I'm a-ok with it.
Still, it most likely won't be enough to truly challenge Nvidia, but, atleast AMD is trying.

If pascal has native async support then I don't see AMD's current "advantage" having a significant impact on the market.

I think that quite a lot of people will choose AMD over NV just for the fact that they got royally fucked by the 900 series. Between the 970 fiasco and the lack of async, NV doesn't really deserve repeat customers, and honestly anyone that continues to buy their products is hurting the industry as a whole.
NV needs to learn their lessons and not fuck the consumer.

Intel completely fucked AMD several years ago and nobody gives a shit. Nvidia will be fine.
the vast majority of people only care about performance not company politics.

Fixed. That's really the case. Which is stupid. Also, I don't recall what you're talking about with Intel, link?

Well like the very first paragraph says:
an AMD employee has now claimed that the latter's superior architecture will lead to a significant majority of DX12 PC games partnering with team red, rather than team green, for the coming year.
Tho looking at the lineups the article's mentioned for both companies, it looks like there's gonna be a lot of big titles on both sides out, which doesn't really reflect the impression of the headline.
I'm kinda confused at the mention of Mantle in the article. First of all, I don't understand how it's an argument for DX12 games preferring AMD since Mantle's an alternative to DX12 anyway. Also I guess I had the wrong impression, but didn't AMD dial down Mantle development after responses like DX12 and NextGL?

Intel has lost its challenge to Europe's 1.06 billion fine for locking rival AMD out of the market.
my new amd card doesnt support dx12
The R9 Nano is coming out in 2 days and we'll probably see some real shit go down between both companies. Hopefully it's the micro computer card everyone's been waiting for, although kind of niche. It looks like it could even go into a laptop if there's a big enough budget.

If two different brands carry different technologies, are you choosing the technologies or the brand?

So I shouldn't buy a 980 even though there's nothing from AMD even comparable? Like, I'm not a brand loyalist, but if I want the best bang for my buck, am I wrong in thinking that AMD fails me?

Don't buy anything yet, supposedly the next gen coming out next year

Yeah. The 390X barely underperforms up against the 980, and it's almost $100 cheaper. Something like 8%, which is absolutely negligible.

Isn't it lacking in features like physx and similar products though?

fucking loving it

tbh I rarely see games use physx, and if they do it's really not that noticeable. Usually it's "Slightly more particles in a fart". The only game I REALLY remember it in was batman
it's barely a feature that even matters. If it stopped existing I don't think many people would genuinely notice.
my new amd card doesnt support dx12
I don't know of any new AMD card that doesn't. What card did you get?

quoted for the motherfucking truth, only games i've ever seen really take advantage of that are the arkham games, borderlands and dark void, which nobody plays anymore.

The hierarchy goes like this I think:
amd 290
nvidia 970
amd 390
nvidia 980
amd 295x2
amd fury
amd fury x
nvidia 980ti
nvidia titan
Then we get into firepro and tesla series nobody can afford.
Somewhere along that hierarchy is the amd fury nano, but I don't know where yet because it comes out in 2 days.

Depends what you want and what price point you're shopping at. My R9 390 was ten bucks cheaper and beat the 970 in benchmarks. Draws more power though.
Don't buy anything yet, supposedly the next gen coming out next year
Well if next gen is coming out next year then he should really wait until the year after that, because that's when the next next gen will be revealed. And if he's waiting that long he should really just wait one more year, because the following year will be even better. Actually after that comes out he might as well...
Actually don't worry about waiting for the next best thing because you will be waiting forever. As long as it's not coming out in like a week there's no point in waiting.

Nothing comparable? The 390x goes blow for blow against the 980 if you're playing at 1440p or above. Which you should if you're dropping that much on a card. And it's $75 less.
Meanwhile here I am with an integrated graphics card that supposedly supports DX11 but I have yet to see that.

I'd be pretty pissed if I bought a 295x2 and it didn't perform better than the 980 Ti (or Titan X for that matter) - it's basically two 290Xs on one card.
Also, there are both X and non-X versions of the 2/390, and those are basically the same cards anyhow. Fury Nano will probably be around the 390, but it's not gonna be competitive on pricing - it's all about the form factor, so it's probably gonna be niche. FirePro and Tesla cards aren't any better for gaming.

Same deal as the absolute shit Titan Z. Only difference is the 295x2's price was dropped regularly to $600 before the Titan X came out which still made it a damn competitive card.

The 295x is great for crossfire according to the benchmarks I saw, 2 of them crossfired can beat 3 980's while a single one of them is worse than the 980 at some tasks somehow.

Crossfire stutter is terrible tho.
It's a pity they're not likely to clear up their reverse compatibility issues, I'd love to be able to use another ATI card in my next rig.
