• Serious temperature problem with my CPU.

I've had this PC since last Christmas and I've only just noticed my CPU temperature increasing at an alarming rate. When and when I'm not playing on games. Some games run very slowly due to this but others don't. I've tried a number of things like removing all the dust from inside and outside of my PC that may be blocking the fans. Went into the BIOS menus, increased fan aggressiveness and turned on smart fan and I've even went to measures of placing a normal house fan (the rotating ones) beneath my PC but my brother needed it back so I couldn't test if it worked or not. Specs (Including the temperature) - Temps and other stuff - I'm stuck on what to do at the moment. I'm not the best with PCs so I'm willing to spend some money to fix this. Mostly, to spend around £50 to buy something to fix it if I can. Any help is highly appreciated. [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] Isn't letting me edit the OP for some reason. Mucked up the temps so here.
Bump? It's getting very bad now. 97 degrees almost.
Those are very high temps, especially for idle. Make sure your heatsink is properly seated. Even with the worst thermal paste you shouldn't get those temps on idle.
Make sure youve got your fans working with each other, rather than against each other.• Also ensure that your heatsink is operational and didn't quit on you.• If you're going to replace a part I would suggest looking into liquid cooling at that price range.•
There won't be any liquid coolers worthwhile for him in that price range. The only ones are really 120mm AIO's, and they are not good for the money in full size situations
£50 = $85~... For $85 you can find a nice cooler master set, and maybe even find a nicer $100 kit for sale.
If you actually look at UK sites, the most you can get with that budget is a lower end 120mm. Just because the currency is worth that much in USD does not mean he gets everything for exactly US prices.
Sorry I didn't post sooner, PC needed to be turned off as it was reaching 99. Posting from my phone but what is a heatsink? How do I know where it is?
Big metal thing with a lot of fins, held on by screws or 4 black plastic pins. If you push it around with your finger, it shouldn't move. If it does, it's loose. You can get thermal paste in a syringe at any shop that carries PC parts. A little bit (about a rice grain) of that stuff goes inbetween the CPU and Heatsink, but I recommend getting the advice of someone who knows that they're doing or watching a youtube tutorial on how to install a heatsink.
Are you using the bundled cooler with your processor? I've normally noticed those ones aren't amazing quality. For my Intel i5-4670K I got this, now I haven't seen my processor jump above 50 degrees with my fans on higher speed, even while playing games or rendering. You might wanna look into a proper cooler if you're still getting high temperatures after checking your current one and reapplying thermal paste, air coolers are pretty cheap but aren't as good as water coolers (though they're a little more expensive and fragile for obvious reasons).
Make sure all the fans are moving when you turn on the pc. Replace any dead fans and the thermal paste. If you have a stock amd heatsink it should have a little clamp you can pull to release the heatsink.
You might want to check if you have some bitcoin miner virus running if it is properly seated/thermal pasted and still getting hot on idle.
