I'm still desperately wanting to know how this remake will shape up. Will they embrace RE7's success and go first person? I wouldn't mind a first person romp through Raccoon City. Will they go all RE4 with a third person camera? I somehow doubt it cause I feel like it would break the tension and difficulty in half with a sickening crack. I feel like there's no way to do this without also employing the fixed camera angles of old, but hopefully with the dev team "doing as they please" maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.
i really hope it's fixed angles and not revelations type shit. they just felt like generic third person shooter.
It better be just a remake, but something tells me its gonna change enough to lose its essence.
We need to remember this is a remake, and not a remaster. Things are going to be changed, we just don't know the extent yet.

Hardcore fans get their fixed camera that preserves the atmosphere and gameplay of old, newer generations'll get something they're used to that makes the transition easier, playercount shoots up from not being too niche nor too broad. RE2 is easily up in my top three RE games, but I'd play it in first person rather than fixed in a heartbeat. If they go with that design strategy, I don't think they can go wrong. I have faith after RE7, only time will tell if they squander it.
trench coat-donning Mr X
Hey! To be honest I would be happy with a remaster, but I'll take RE2 regardless.
I'd love for them to stick to REmake's perfected survival horror style but with RE2 being more action-oriented to begin with, RE7 or 6 style would be better in terms of gameplay
I feel like it would be very limited and not as successful as the first if they were to stick to fixed angles. If they went for something along the lines of Outbreak, I think that would be cool. I'm honestly not even bothered if they went OTS style too, I just want more classic Resident Evil which to me does not boil down only to the format of viewing.
I've heard that it's going to be third-person, though I don't think it was specified whether the camera is fixed or over-the-shoulder.
I'm not against them adding third/first person as an option but if they're going to change it to first/third person only then it may as well be an entirely new RE game instead of a remake. REmake/REmaster did it right. Add a more user friendly control scheme for people who don't like tank controls, and a few new features/locations/story elements to keep it fresh without messing with what made it Resident Evil. All they need to do is give us that but RE2.
I always felt like an easy solution for fixed camera mechanics is to design the game's controls similarly to a twin-stick shooter's. Aiming being as simple as slapping the thumbstick in the direction of the thing you want to make disappear. Throw in some laser pointers so aiming is easier and because lasers pointers and Resident Evil go hand-in-hand these days. The game could automatically adjust your aim high and low for you depending on where the enemy is positioned so shooting guys down low or up on walls and ceilings doesn't feel so awkward. Maybe use one of the buttons freed up by these smoother mechanics to make the character aim for the weak point instead of center mass. Then they can offset the much easier controls with more enemies, less ammo, faster reaction times from said enemies, make the character's aim unsteady or any combination of all those things.
I'm looking forward to this either way, even if they make a share of creative deviations away from the original. That said, I'll be disappointed if they don't include/reference this classic moment: Got ten year old me off guard when that music started blasting.

To me, the sound design of RE2, in what one could say is outdated, is one of the game's biggest weapons. It just gives the game the perfect mood to it, like a bleak deserted city ruled by the walking dead, or the echoing footsteps of someone inside the RPD. It is outdated, yes, but to me, it still sounds fantastic. But then again, thats just me. I grow attached to things like that way too much, even if I shouldn't.
Why would they do anything other than what they did with REmake and the Resident Evil: Zero remake?
Because it's not 2002 anymore and we don't need to prerender everything to make it look good.
Because it's not 2002 anymore and we don't need to prerender everything to make it look good.
Doing fixed camera angles doesn't mean they have to prerender anything.
I feel like ideally, they should stick to the fixed camera angles, but maybe have first person or third person be an unlockable mode after beating the game. Speaking of which, I wonder what kind of extra modes this remake will have? REmake kinda went nuts with all the additional modes. Loved that there were so many ways to change the game up like separating the linked storage boxes, or turning all the enemies invisible. Wonder what kind of ridiculous shit REmake 2 will sport.

Also bring back Extreme Battle.

With just the knife. Through the entire game.

Also a returning extreme battle would be nice.
Because it's not 2002 anymore and we don't need to prerender everything to make it look good.
They don't have the to use the same rendering techniques but the should stick to the same gameplay and perspective. That's more what I meant.
