I'm glad they're taking their time with it. At least comforts me knowing they're being ambitious and not rushing, hopefully delivering a game which will deliver a unique experience.
Doesn't mean I don't wish I could play it now.
Or want coop, which will probably not happen.
I can wait. The Mount and Blade games, despite being awesome, were notoriously buggy. I want a polished M&B experience
5 years might not be "that long" for development for most games but CHRIST most games don't announce their games 5 years inadvance when you have jack shit!
Announcing it last year and this wait would have been so much better. I can wait but god it's been painful.
The game taking 5 years doesn't so much bother me as to why it's taking 5 years for what doesn't seem to be that much of an overhaul to the M&B formula. Sure there are nice additions like crafting and improved siege battles, but i don't think we've really seen any new features that are that substantial.

I'm hoping the politics are more fleshed out

Weather, politics, economics and character relations are getting totally overhauled and made into full aspects of the game.
I don't even care if its buggy - mods will fix that anyway
I just want this to have an enormous scope
