• Help me Upgrade my Motherboard

I need a new motherboard with more than 4 DDR3 RAM slots, additional video card slots and 2x the processor slots. Where can I find this motherboard and at what cost? Btw, I need a dual board that houses both slots for DDR 2 and DDR 3 RAM, yes they do exist. I need this board to render images for my film in the near future.
What other parts do you need? How the hell can we tell what motherboard to get if we don't know what you want to put in it? And what is your budget? This is like saying "I want a car and it has to have an engine in it."

The cost varies on where you want to buy it. I'm aware that the average motherboard is around 150$ while a good one can cost around 400 or more.
I doubt you can get mobo with 2 processor socket for 150
I doubt you can get mobo with 2 processor socket for 150
Well, probably not. I'm not worried about the cost right now, though.

Opterons? I hope Xenons or Opterons because good luck finding a dual CPU motherboard that isn't for server use. Are you planning on running those 5xxx cards in CrossfireX or discretely?

There are boards that allow use of two different memory standards, but you can't use both at the same time, and they're usually garbage low end boards. The last board I saw where you could mix memory standards was middle-life 486 boards with 4 x 30 pin and 2 x 72 pin SIMMs, and even then it didn't work well. They support both CFX and SLI so you can use either ATI or Nvidia cards.

The graphic cards aren't as important seeing as I plan to render using Vray. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] Is this board any good?
Is this board any good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128048
Only Core 2 can fit there
Only Core 2 can fit there
Alright, recommend some good motherboards for me, please.
Why would you want to use both ddr2 and ddr3 anyway
what CPUs are you using
what CPUs are you using
Apparently two of any kind of Intel quad cores... But only Intel.
:iiam:
:iiam:
Along with that, we need to figure out which graphics card. We know it's two of the 5xxx series in Crossfire, but not which ones. :iiam:
Splash out on an extra 60 and you can get this - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161061
There are no uses for having both DDR2 and DDR3 memory in a system that I know of. If you really need 2 cpu sockets buy an EVGA SR-2 The whole system would cost over 3 grand. Are you rendering a feature length blue ray quality movie? You could build a decent system with a Maximus III Formula, Core i7 and 16GB of DDR3 for under 2 grand. That board you posted is a piece of shit.
Splash out on an extra 60 and you can get this - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161061
Not enough processors! [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] An evga SR-2 is probably the only option. OP I demand pictures when this thing is done as proof you are serious.
Not like 2 processors is a particularly new thing.
Why does OP want to do this?
Not like 2 processors is a particularly new thing. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/tgJoN.jpg[/img_thumb]
Yes, get this one! Far better than the SR-2.
Yes, get this one! Far better than the SR-2.
Best part is that taking the actual part specs out, this is exactly what the OP wanted.
Why would you want to use both ddr2 and ddr3 anyway
I currently have 8 GBs of DDR 2 RAM and I spent a good enough amount of money not to let them go to waste. All of this costs around 600$ [editline]18th November 2010[/editline]
Why does OP want to do this?
I need to render a movie.
So what kind of "Intel quad core" are you using?
Intel Quad Cores don't even support dual proc setups, so you would need buy 2 Xeon processors if you still want your dual proc. But even then it would be retarded to buy unless you do actual professional video editing, Xeons that actually support dual proc setups our expensive. I'm assuming you're just doing some amateur film, so you don't need to waste your money on this. I'd recommend buy an i7 950 and a Rampage III.
So what kind of "Intel quad core" are you using?
Apparently any of them. OP doesn't seem to know anything... at all. what are you even rending anyways shit a pixar movie fuck
what are you even rending anyways shit a pixar movie fuck
:10bux: on Windows Movie Maker.
Alright, guys, thanks for your help but I got everything figured out. Thanks anyway.
I currently have 8 GBs of DDR 2 RAM and I spent a good enough amount of money not to let them go to waste.
RAM prices are so high that you can sell RAM bought two years ago for twice the price you bought it for. Even if you bought it recently, you can resell it on Ebay for near what you paid for it.
Um... Xenons are Intel quad cores....
Xenon is an inert gas commonly used in high powered light bulbs, did you mean Xeon?
