Replace a dell heatsink with an aftermarket heatsink?

Could I replace the standard big ass heatsink with an aftermarket heatsink so I could put a dual slot card onto my dell mobo? It's socket 775 (A Q9550)

Not really. Unless you mod the cooler.
Dell used pins on the cooler that only fit in their own motherboards, not the standard LGA775. I modified mine with some screws and bolts but I wouldn't recommend it. Once again, TS threads get posted in H&S...
Dell usually uses BTX as their form factor, most heatsinks are for ATX form factor. BTX has holes that are a bit further away from each other than the holes for ATX.
It would require some modification to get working if you're dead set on replacing the heatsink.

That wasn't the problem for me, the mobo was micro-ATX but the pin holes were too small for standard LGA775 pins.
