If your max graphics can only run on a Titan, I seriously feel like you just took it as an excuse to sell more Titans for Nvidia.
8GB of RAM? Are you fucking serious?
I'm going to go ahead and bet it's optimized like fucking shit.
I'm not saying that it's bad that new games needs better hardware to run, but I think Ubisoft is taking it as an excuse to do shit optimization.

Why would the 8GB RAM requirement be ridiculous? The new consoles have 8GB, so that will be the new baseline for PC ports as well.
And needing a Titan to run ultra settings at playable frame rates doesn't seem too absurd either. As long as lower settings can do fine with lesser cards.

AssCreed 4 was optimised like complete shit too so it wouldn't surprise me.

You know the Titan isn't for gaming, right? A 780 would do a little better.
the game is well optimized, the base game can run on a computer that could run titles like ac4 on medium-high
if you have money out the ass for a titan, go ahead and jerk it, otherwise opt for a console because this entire generation will be like this

The over-the-top sunrays detract from the rest of the visuals though. It's so extreme.
I think, sometimes, we underestimate the processing power required for our hobby.
Christ that's some amazing graphics. I'll have to dream after those pieces for a while tho, been in the red since forever.
Are the 800 series coming out any time soon? I might just get a 780 or something later this month.

The mobile 800 series (800M) has been out for almost a month. Hold out for a little while longer and I think we'll see desktop models coming before the end of Summer.

Also, unless they confirm that this game can take full advantage of hyperthreading, I'm calling bullshit on the need for a 4770K.

Oh wow, the cheapest 16GB ram you can buy here is this:

And according to Google:

I heard the next big iteration isn't out until December or next year due to a delay.

Yeah like Scot said right now if we're lucky it might come one model at the end of the year the rest is probably coming a couple months in to 2015.
So if you really need an upgrade go for it now.

how the fuck
did you buy it when ram was seriously cheap a few years ago?

I'm imagining someone in 2006 looking at the recommended specs for new 360/PS3 games and their 2004 GPU and saying what you're saying.
Then fast forward five years.

I don't know when you bought those but ram right now is very expensive, I bought 16 GB for 80 USD but now it's like twice that.

I do have 8 GB of Ram. I just find odd games that needs high amount of RAM to run well. Generally, the bottleneck's found in VRAM or Processing power.
It annoys me that people yell "TITAN" as a new benchmark for video processing. Just because it's expensive doesn't make it good. It's card known for its name more than its abilities.
There's really a hard line between "Making games for Good PCs" and "Fuck optimization". You can talk to me all you want about how newer games should strive to use the powerful hardware it's given, but so far all I've seen is shitty optimized port that barely ran correctly on the console, being ported with a cheap budget on PC. Watch_Dogs Does not look like a game that uses those 8 GB of RAM, that Titan and that i7 processor. At all.
how the fuck

Holy shit, why did ram take a huge price increase.
Just checked the 16gb of ram I got in 2012 for $90aud, is now going for $225...
I don't know when you bought those but ram right now is very expensive, I bought 16 GB for 80 USD but now it's like twice that.
I've got a local store that sells stuff fairly cheaply, it was around $90 for 16GB when I got mine, of course it's more expensive now (I'm seeing 16GB kits for $190-$240)
Thats what happens between generations
look at 360 launch titles, they look like shit but generally they maxed out the hardware.
look at games that are more recent which run on the same hardware, crysis 3 as an example.
When developers are restricted to certain things they generally work to get the most out of it, the new hardware in these consoles gave them some breathing room so the games can be less optimized for consoles meaning PC gets the brunt of the shitty standards.
Give it a few years and games will look better and actually have a reason to take up this amount of RAM, but you may as-well upgrade now (talking to everyone that doesnt have much RAM) instead of bitching about it seeing as how 8GB is going to be the standard for minimum very soon.
Please, i've got to work with all kinds of hardware (programming) and i can tell you most games don't even require all that stuff. They're just TERRIBLY done. SSDs are getting popular these days anyway so it's not hard at all to keep minimum in RAM and stream from disk as required. As for optimization, they're just hurrying to get the game on the market, they can make it optimized.

Well sure you could just stream everything off the disk (if the user has a SSD), but why would you want to do that? Games are one of the few apps that take entire control over the system, they should be the main thing using memory, and in that case they should be using as much as possible.
SSDs are still much slower than RAM too, so even doing that slows the game down.
Holy shit, why did ram take a huge price increase.

Floods in the production area increased the prices for all memory products, such as RAM and HDDs.
SSDs are still much slower than RAM too, so even doing that slows the game down.
It doesn't really slow the game down because RAM is basically still the buffer, in fact, it's even more efficient than just showing everything into RAM.
I wonder how it'll run for me. i7 3770, XFX Radeon 7950, 16GB RAM.
Should be fine, right?

The buffer for what? And how is re-reading a file over and over again off a (say) 500MB/s drive more efficient that just keeping it in memory? (That has a faster access time and more bandwidth)
