I still product this to be the biggest crash and burn of a game since Duke Nukem Forever.
Game is going to suck.
I'm leaning towards the cautiously optimistic. If it's bad, that's a shame, but I really hope it succeeds because it would be a big jump in standards, since it, in theory, will manage to create a seamless union between space dogfight and FPS, something that I always wanted to see becoming a reality.
holy fuck when will they stop reporting on the money and start showing what's been released so far?
This week saw the release of the second test or alpha version of Star Citizen. This starts to tie the separately developed elements of the game into a more coherent whole.
TWO SENTENCES about Alpha 2.0? Such a massive milestone and that's all they have to say about it? Jesus christ
I'm trying to follow this game from the FP thread but all it seems to be is ships, ships and more ships, and podcasts and advertisements.
I still remember when they said alpha would come in 2013.

What's been released is already way more fun than DNF so not really

And why is that? Have you played it? Please enlighten us before throwing bullshit statements around.

I swear to christ that "Star citizen sucks because it has a big budget" is becoming a meme now. Half of you that spat out saying it sucks haven't even played the damn thing.

Its becoming a meme to shit on any game with a big budget these days. The cynicism around them is just awful.
The amount of people on FP alone that will seriously say "they're gonna keep charging real money for ships when it launches it'll be p2w just wait you'll see" is absurd.
well your prediction doesn't really make sense tbf, after one fifth the development time they already have far more to show
I'm comparing DNF's hype train to how much money Star Citizen has raised.
There was a lot of both but in DNF's case the final product was an absolute bust.
For $100 million in development funding this better become one of the biggest games this decade.

I'm basically in the same boat, cautiously optimistic. This is a game that has been attempted several times and its a personal baby to Chris Roberts. It better be good because if not it just shows he can't kill his babies.
Meanwhile over here I dropped $45 for a fun space shooter to play with friends. As far as I'm concerned everything else is a bonus. I didn't pay for the super awesome mega persistent MMO universe so if it works out great, if it doesn't oh well. Hopefully Squadron 42 is good and optimized.
At this point I honestly think they are going to have a really hard time fucking it up :v: Even if they somehow manage to overspend they can still work on anything they want. It's like a dream project either way for them. I hope they pull it off.
I think the main thing to be concerned about is the time frame for which they're pushing content. Its good stuff and 2.0 is pretty fun for what it is. But still no Star Marine after we've been told time and time again that its gonna come out.
I think rageaholic did the whole cautious optimism best.

The Devs are updating the game several times a day and pushing features down the pipe at a pretty reasonable pace in my experience. Open alpha testing is a bug QA festival compared to normal testing routines. I'm not finding anything to hate with the game or team so far, dunno why everyone's throwing hissy fits over it. Maybe they just don't like their initial naysaying being slowly proven wrong.
