Alrighty Facepunch, my laptop's been pretty wonky lately with not wanting to defrag properly. :v:
Whenever I start the defrag, I begin gradually losing free space on my hard drive. Then, at around 57%, the laptop just locks up and I can't do anything so I'm stuck cutting off the power source to restart it.
I don't know what else to do, it's never done this before. I've been using Defraggler for around 2 years now and loved it, and I also keep it regularly updated as well. If anybody could tell me why my laptop is doing this, or even better, give me a solution to this problem, that'd be great.
Sounds like your harddrive is failing, do a chkdsk and post results.
Worse case is you'll have to move your data to a new drive.
I don't defrag my hard drive through the Windows on the Drive. I use a PE (Pre-install Enviroment) to
defrag it. It can be booted off of a CD or a USB Drive and runs completely off the boot source, getting the hard to reach places.
I'm the tech guy at school and most of the staff/students looks up to me to fix all the computer shit. I would recommend doing this since that you more than likely may not be able to run diagnostics on the machine without the OS crashing.
1. Grab a CD of Windows Xp
2. http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm , this will help you make a PE Build. I prefer using this.
3. Make a CD or a USB from this.
4. Boot off of the CD/USB and boot into The Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
5. You will then go to a Windows Xp desktop, go to all programs, and look for defraggler.
You can also use this to run Chkdsk while your there
Problem resolved, thanks though for your input guys. It's greatly appreciated. :3:
