• Windows 7 reformat

Hey guys, I'm going to keep this short so here goes... Today I decided it's finally time to reformat my computer using windows 7. So i looked online to see how it's done. I read that i just have to insert the install disc and restart then an option to boot from disc will appear. It did not. Fast forward abit i turn my comp on and load windows normally and then run setup.exe on the windows disc and it starts running through the task of moving old files to a new folder called "windows.old" then it gets to the second step (which i can't for the life of me remember) and i leave it to chug away. I come back about 30 minutes later to check the progress and the entire screen is black, the only thing i can see is the mouse. So i leave it to chug away some more. Coming back about an hour later the computer is now turned off and i move the mosue and it starts up (i think it was in some sort of sleep more) but the screen is still black and i can only see my mouse. So i ask you Facepunch, is this behaviour expected, should i leave it to chug away? or what?
If 'Press anything to boot from cd...' doesn't appear, you'll probably have to set the first boot device to your cd rom drive. Restart your pc and at the point where it says things like 'Press DEL to enter BIOS' or something, look for a 'Press F2 to select boot device' or something along those lines. If you can't find it, you'll have to enter bios and find the place where you can set the first, second etc boot device and set the first boot device to your dvd drive

What I think I'm going to do is remove the hard drive and attach it another computer and reformat that drive from that computer then install win 7 as a first time installlation.
 You ran the formatter from windows. There's a black screen because you were deleting the very system it was running on!
