• Black screen on startup

About a week ago my hard drive failed and I had to a clean install of Windows on a backup drive I had. Initially, things were fine, until I restarted my computer after installed some updates, and came to a black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. However, the rest of my computer was working as normal, since I could hear the startup noise. I typed in my password, heard the login sound, and my screen changed to my wallpaper, devoid of icons, taskbar, or anything else. Hitting ctrl+alt+delete just produced another black screen. From the boot screen I went into safe mode and found out that this issue seems to be caused by conflicting drivers. I've tried uninstalling and doing a clean install of my GPU's drivers, removing my GPU from the computer itself and reinstalling it, but I keep getting the same error. I've found a half dozen different solutions on the internet, but none of them have worked. My GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
