My system won't start up, after installing a new AMD motherboard and CPU. It booted up twice, which is when I changed the bios to optimal settings, like the instuctions said, bit now it won't even connect to a video source, it does power on, however.
After doing some searching on an error I got during the 2nd boot up (Sync flash flood error, or something along those lines), someone said they tested it, and the RAM wasn't getting enough voltage.
Sure enough, I took out 3gb of my 4.5GB of RAM, and it worked. I can change the voltage it gets in BIOS, but how do I make it apply to my two other RAM sticks? If I put them back in, it still won't connect to a video source, and I don't want to fry my current RAM.
1:POST YOUR SPECS!!!!
2:How do you have 4.5 gb ram?
Do you have a 6 channel board? with 4x 1gb and 1x 512 because you found it laying around?
If you do, remove the 512 mb it only slows your pc down.
Use 4gb in Dual channel mode.
I have one 512, one 2gb, two 1gbs.

The reason I have 4.5 is that I had 2 512mb, and two 1gbs, then upgraded with a 2GB stick.
EDITED AGAIN: Until I fix this, I'm just using this computer with 2.5gb, it's working fine, and I survived a few years with 3gb.
What ram is it? They could have different specs
I'm not sure, but it worked before I got the new mobo, I'm currently busy on a very important project, but will open my PC up and take a look tomorrow.
I know for a fact the 2gb is crucial ddr2 (All are ddr2) PC2 - 5300

As taipan said, remove that 512mb stick because it's slowing you down.
If you have 1gb and a 512mb stick, the 1gb stick will slow down to the speed of the 512mb stick.
"Your only as fast as your slowest part", So by keeping your slower 512mb stick, your bottle necking..
.. at any rate your not getting a good speed from your ram, because your slowing it down with that 512mb stick...
Your computer really only has 2gb, because you have 4 sticks of 512mb..
[editline]09:40AM[/editline]
So yeah. Pull out that 512mb, and keep in the two 1gb sticks, Because I believe it's faster than 1x 2gb stick
You really shouldn't be mixing ram anyways.
Crucial ddr2 PC2 - 5300 (2gb)
DDR PC2-5300 (1GB)

HUZZAH! I took out the 512Mb one, and wala, with works! Now I'm running with 4gb of RAM, 2x1 GB and one 2GB!

No thanks really.
Can someone confirm he's actually running 4gb? and not just 3gb because 2gb is slowing to 1gb?
giving 1+1+1gb = gb RAM total.
OP is your system x86 or x64?
Wait what?
2GB slowing to 1 GB?
Thats not how it works mate.
2gb doesnt become 1gb if you put another 1 gb next to it.
Just the speeds of all the sticks change to the slowest stick speed.
So if you have two sticks of RAM at the same speed, and they were 1gb and 2gb, you'd still have 3gb?
RAM is one of the area's I know less, but I thought it worked how I said above.

The amount of RAM adds up. The speed of the RAM is brought down to the slowest RAM stick in there.
I DO have 4GB of RAM, at least, that's what my system says, and how much I can use.
RAM only slows down to the lowest stick, as darkness said.
And taipan before him, but thanks for clearing that up guys... Sorta makes sense now that I think about it :v:
