For the past 4-5 hrs I have been unable to install Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64. Windows Update throws a hissy fit and gives me a error (0x80073712) and I can't get it installed via standalone update. I had already tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter which was no help at all. The DISM tool took way took long (around 3-4 hrs).
Theres been a lot of shit with windows 8.1 and further that has a lot to to with whether or not your processor supports specific instruction sets. My guess is that yours doesnt.
According to MS, that error means there's a missing or corrupt file. If a file system check and repair didn't fix the problem, you can try deleting the WU cache (c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download\).
If that doesn't work, you can try using the refresh option on the Windows install DVD.
Did you also try sfc /scannow in the command prompt?

I actually did. I followed pretty much every instruction on the web regarding this error. In the end I just said fuck it and reformatted since I wasted so much time trying to fix it. Problem seems to be fixed. When I did update to 8.1... I didn't download KB2919355.. at least to my knowledge I didn't since MS seems to have integrated it with the 8.1 store update.
