Even when it's selling less than the poor ol' Dreamcast, Nintendo still seems to be able to put out good stuff for the Wii U. Especially with the new Luigi Death Stare feature that has spawned a slew of videos and gifs and gubbins.
Smash'll hopefully help push systems, but Link, Samus and Fox probably need to bring out their big adventure titles to push it past Dreamcast. We're sure to see at least Link show off his moves at E3, not just in Hyrule Warriors, but a new Metroid or Starfox would not go amiss as a last-ditch attempt to keep Wii U relevant.
Still a poor name for the system, mind. Hell, Wii 2 woulda been a better name to attract the public's attention, since Wii U kinda sounds like an expansion module or online academical system for Wii.
And people say the Wii U needs strong 3rd party support to do well.

It does. It can't survive on just first and second party titles.
Nintendo hasn't had good third party support since the N64. At the release of every Nintendo console there's some lip service paid to third parties and then they do nothing to encourage third party titles.
It has been hurting them for years, and all they do is rely on Mario and Zelda to push their systems.
There was some hope when it came to Ubisoft until the whole Rayman incident.

Uh, the N64 wasn't that good for 3rd party support either...
Just from exclusives alone the Gamecube was amazing
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil 4 (timed exclusive)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II and III
Super Monkey Ball (timed)
Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 (for a long time before ports)
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Ikaruga
Tales of Symphona (for a long timed exclusive)
Skies of Arcadia (wasn't ported to PS2 after)
Soul Calibur II with Link as a playable character
Etc Etc
A few exclusives doesn't mean it has good third party support. Compared to the Xbox and PS2 it had pretty bad support. Soul Calibur 2 having one exclusive character isn't good support, MGS:TS was terrible, RE0 was bad, and a lot of the exclusives were just for a relatively short time.

I was including the N64 in that.
