Friend of mine's computer won't boot into Windows.
It sits at the bios screen, and reads
"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
Thing is, he light on the disc drive flashes and won't open via the button. Even when a disc is put into it via the pin hole; nothing happens.
Tomorrow I'm going to try to boot from my usb drive with Ubuntu. Otherwise I'll need to order a new hard drive.

Have you tried to boot with the disc drive unplugged, and does the hard drive show up in the bios boot menu?
Same thing happens when the disc drive disconnected.
As Dr Ninkeo said, check to see if the HDD is even listed in the bios. If not, switch sata ports/cable. If still no, dead drive.
