Okay, i recently got two slightly dated servers via an old friend, both in perfect state.
The first had 2x 256mb RAM and the second had 1x 512mb. I swapped both with 2x 1gb that i had lying around, installed Windows Server 2003 on the first and it performed fine at webhosting and running a 8 slot gmod server.
When i opened the second today, i noticed they had different fans mounted, while they have the same CPU?
As i said, the first (With the smaller fan) already has Windows Server 2003 and reaches about 68 to 71 degrees celcius while there were 4 players building medium contraptions on the server. The second reaches about 65 degrees on boot (Lower than the first), but i haven't had a chance to test it under load because it still has WinXP on it because they were used by a school before this.
Now my question, the spare fan i have comes from a P4, the pc's both have celerons. The first is much small than the second and the second looks the same as the one from the P4. I've included some pictures to make it clearer. Would i gain anything from installing the p4 processor on the first server? The 'bigger' fans both are labeled as 0.18A, the 'small' fan is labeled 0.16A. Would i gain lower temperatures if i install this fan?

Why not put the second fan in the server you already have set up and test out how hot it gets and then use the best based on that?
I would imagine the bigger fan is more effective though as the blades look like they'd push more air due to their design.

It actually brings the temp down by 2 degrees under load, but produces quite a lot more noise. I've also got a fan the same diameter as the big on, but with more and smaller blades. Would that be quieter?
If the noise is much higher, go with the other one. 2 degrees isn't much.
I honestly doubt it would make much difference at all.
You're changing the whole heatsink, right? Are you reapplying thermal paste, too? If you're just changing the fan, I don't think it's going to matter much.

I've put on a bigger heatsink with more space between the fins, fresh paste and a bigger fan.
