How can you get scammed as a cybersecurity researcher? It baffles me...
This reminds me of that recent episode of Catfish about that cybersecurity asshat who catfished 500+ women for over 5*(?) years

He had the gift cards for 4 years and that was his weakness because he wanted rid of them enough to give someone he shouldn't have the benefit of the doubt.

Mr. Haschek seems like a very kind person for not reporting the thief to the police when he saw how poor the thief is. I don't know if I would've done the same in a similar situation.
