I want to build a computer in a price range of 300 dollars; I don't know much about computer parts and would love some help deciding.
It'll be playing source games and league of legends
I can get some ram and a harddrive from a friend if I need too.
I don't need a keyboard, mouse, speakers, windows disk, or monitor.
I live in Utah, USA.
(I'm making this post for a friend because he doesn't want too, I'll fill in things like his monitor resolution when I get a hold of them).
At that low of a budget you'll need to find some bundle or prebuilt that is on a sale.
Well to get something decent at least. Surely you won't be able to build it after your needs, but you'd at least get better overall value.
This is what i have so far:

Videocard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125391
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115078
Is there anything entirely wrong with them? I plan on scavenging ram and a harddrive from a friend/old computer.
Or what site or place do you recommend for a pre-built? I thought you had to pay more for less power.
If you have a case and powersupply that is sufficient, then it is quite nice.
If you have more to spend, then you can up the gpu a bit. 40 dollars more for a 6850 would be a good buy.
Oh dear I forgot about the powersupply; no I don't have a spare lying around.
Does the motherboard really matter? Is it fine to get a really cheap one and not have much consequences?
Depends on if you wish to future upgrade or not. Its a bit of a waste to run an i5 2500k on a h61 motherboard, but if you'd still be on a low budget then you could just get an i5 2400 later on which will still work fine.
Unfortunately you might not have very many choices when having a low budget, but an 2400 isn't in any way bad and will perform super well in games nonetheless.
(the cheaper motherboards are also so colorful and cute V:v:V)
You shouldn't worry too much, you're not throwing money away as you still get the exact same current performance, but you will be crippled once you decide to upgrade again. Of course, you by then might just not need it. All depends on what you'll need.

Is anything wrong with this build? I'm pretty sure this is plenty of power and within his price range.

Don't even consider that PSU.
