• GTX 580 causing fans to spin for a second and then die

This problem only came up a few hours ago and by removing parts, testing power, checking which parts were at fault. The only part which it now doesn't work with is my GTX 580, with or without power cables. As long as the card is actually in the slot, it causes the fans to run and then stop a second later, meaning that the POST has failed I'm assuming? I can provide the information you need if you can be precise. EDIT: Point of Asking is if the Card is done for? or if I can fix it somehow?
Well it wont work without power cables thats for sure even without it being faulty. And it could also be your PSU. Post your wattage and make please.
I'm with Taipan on this one. It seems like it's a problem with either the PSU or the video card itself. check your voltage in the BIOS and make sure the slot that the card is in recognizes and has proper voltage to it if you have that feature in BIOS. I would also try to put in another card in that same slot and if you have an extra slot put the video card in that. I doubt it's a driver/OS issue but if you can get the computer to boot into VGA mode then do that as well. Also try a live CD with linux or whatever on it to see if it'll boot that way. If you can't even get into BIOS then I'm very confident that it's a voltage issue. In that case I'd physically inspect the card for any signs of chip burn/creep and if it's really hot you might need to reapply thermal paste or clear off any dust obstructing the fans/heat sink. good luck
