Hey.
I've been reading about the Xperia Play recently. At first I thought it was basically just a Droid plus a PSP Go - exactly what I wanted. But the more I read, the more it seems like it's just a Droid with PSP controls to input to regular Android games.
So, my question is, can it actually connect to PSN and download actual PSP games as well as the Android apps?
Thanks!
It has it's own app store with exclusive playstation games. So it's pretty much PSP Go Cross Phone.
what exactly comes to your mind when you think of "Droid" because literally everything about the device, apart from android and touch input, has nothing to do with Motorola's Droid

actually, i hope the touch input has nothing to do with the Droid, as well, seeing as the Droid's touch screen is kind of crappy iirc
It's "just" a Android phone designed for mobile gaming.
And NOT a PSP + phone

When I say Droid I mean handset running Android.
So it's not a PSP + phone?

Since it runs the Android OS and not the PSP OS, yeah.
It's a Android phone designed with mobile gaming in mind, and slightly styled like a PSP.

Also the name for the phone itself is also a hint.
I saw it switch between the android UI and the XMB. I think it's a PSP in a phone.
Android phone with exclusive market and built-in controls for games.
I imagine this would be the new best phone to root and run emulators, simply because of the controls? Carrying my SNES in my backpack is no longer practical.

Best phone for running emulators right now is probably the N900
It runs Maemo 5 instead of Android though, some people might not like that

That's as bad as calling an iPod Touch an 'iTouch'.

More like calling iPod Touch "iOS".
What's the latest rumor for pricing?

that's stupid, Droid is both a specific product and a specific product branding under Verizon. don't do that. it's worse than those people that say "iTouch"

worse than that, the OS is entitled "Android" not "Droid"
It's next gen n-gage

Oh! The N900. It can also run a lot of Palm WebOS games too :keke:
The PSP Phone doesn't even have any features of the PSP2, so it's a waste of money to buy a phone with PSP1 built-in when the PSP2 is just around the corner.

well, yeah, aside for maybe not willing to pay the estimated $300+ for just a PSP, and actually wanting a phone. the point in the Xperia Play is to have a PSP and a phone mixed together, hence the unnofficial name, PSP Phone. Not to mention it's on android, with tons of emulator opportunities, and that gamepad seems mighty fine for all sorts of games, not just emulation.
