Fantastic game, really wish the community was a little larger.

The game is really fun if you can get an even team that doesn't just vote concede when things are going bad / run to ready room / disconnect to preserve their hive skill

I've tried, so many times. I love the concept, I love the style, and the feel, but I could just never get into it, and it's mostly for those reasons.

The RTS part of the game is also incredibly unintuitive, I'm not that bad at RTS games, the commander gameplay wasn't designed very well at all, I know plenty of ways to fix most of the issues the game has.
I wish they would have kept the asymmetrical design of Marines vs Aliens. I liked that the aliens had no commander in NS1, and focused a lot on team work and communication.

I would honestly try to do my best to remove the RTS part from the game almost completely, and instead I would blend all the RTS elements with the gameplay itself, so like marines could have a new engineer class which could go around building stuff, while the marines are just cannon fodder like usual. They could honestly very easily keep the RTS elements in the game if they wanted to, I'm really surprised they never went with something like this, I wonder if they even thought about it either, it would've been way better, I can already think of a shitton of ways to make the game way more fun and easier to grasp, understand and play. Instead of an RTS+FPS game it would be an FPS game with RTS elements which would be much more easier to develop too. They could've spent more time making the game more fun. Why the fuck didn't they do this, blah.
it's an excellent game bogged down by not being simple enough, and that's really what it comes down to for me. 9 classes in tf2 is a lot more complex than some class based games, but they do it in a really simple way and you immediately learn every character just by looking at them NS2 though, I literally have no idea whats going on most of the time. I have no idea where to go or what to do, aside from "Oh they're bad guys sho- oh I'm dead again nvm long respawn time too, sure is fun ISN'T IT"
It definitely has a learning curve and stacked teams will ruin the fun but when you get a hang of the game and have two competent teams going up against each other, you're going to have a great experience. I remember this one time we had the aliens pushed back to their spawn and they held out for an hour against our exosuits and me in a jetpack and flamethrower
-wrong thread dam-
played this a lot. played a lot of ns1 too. this game turned into who can stack the best in pubs by waiting 5 minutes after the game starts to see who is winning and join that team. Now the only good games i play are on captains mode, but a mic is required as well as knowledge of the game, so not for newcomers. if you are a decent gamer who can look up a video and understand game concepts easily, own a mic and like team based shooters its fun. if you aren't, you won't have fun
