• My computer seems to have 2 processors and only running 1, is something wrong?

Hey FP, It would be a great help if someone could take a look at my problem: When I go to 'Computer' > 'System Properties' > 'Device Manager' it shows this: [IMG_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47456802/Device%20manager%20screen.jpg[/IMG_thumb] This seems (to my relatively uninformed mind) to show that my computer has two Intel Xeon processors, yet the 'System Properties' screen and in the Speccy program show that I have 1 Intel Xeon processor instead of 2: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/68a470ixjzoSyFNXvVj6rGJ Should my computer be running both and should that make it a dual core? (If this is a dumb question please explain it to me, I always like to learn)
That Nocona Xeon is presumably single-core: the other one is likely hyperthreading being enabled. Normally, Windows doesn't tend to use hyperthreading by default. You can however change the affinity (what cores a process uses) of a process on a process-by-process basis in Task Manager, though I wouldn't really recommend it unless you know what you're doing.
Ah, I've just had to look up hyperthreading and you are probably right considering that wiki said: "They appear to the OS as two processors, thus the OS can schedule two processes at once." Besides, I dont have an option for affinity which means that it must be running a single core. It confuses me because I see the core number under the processor in Speccy, and since I have two processors I assume that I should have two cores.

If you simply can't find it, here's a screenie: Also note that a processor itself =/= processor cores.
Yeah, there is no 'Set Affinity' option under 'Set Priority'. It must be just a single core with hyperthreading for the other processor. Thanks for the help and thanks for clarifying my processor =/= core question.
