It's unlikely that consumer WiGig boxes will be able to manage the latency required for VR to feel smooth, the one being developed for the vive in partnership with valve is a pretty custom implementation of WiGig. Goes without saying as well that as the article says, you are *not* going to be able to use this at extreme ranges, there's a limited line of sight range, so if you were to use this for VR your router would need to be very strategically placed in your play area and it's not going to give you any more freedom to walk around your house even if your tracking system does.
it's not well known, but valve has looked into wireless methods since conception. At the time the only product out their that could handle wireless communication they needed saturated the band allowing only one headset and nothing else wireless in the room to work.
