Of course they've lost users. I know a fair portion of people who closed their accounts around the time that bosses were firing people because of stuff they said on Facebook.
It's just a natural thing with a site that size. There's always going to be waves of people that come and go.
It's not a sign of Facebook failing to maintain their audience, but more of a dip that'll drive their next big feature.
I understand if this was about Myspace or Friendster but Facebook? Facebook looks strong than ever
Myspace has already lost most of it's users, denying that would be just tremendously stupid.
And as far as I'm aware FB hasn't lost any amount that would be worth mentioning anyway.
So, when will they fix the fugly and cluttered UI?
Isn't it really really hard to close your facebook page though?

Yeah. I looked into this myself a few months back, out of curiosity. There's no real mentions of "delete" anywhere obvious in the settings - it's all "deactivate", where they keep your account and all your data, you're just not visible to your friends and won't get notifications.
To delete it properly, you need to search through their help system, find the right page, click on a link, check a box, click a button, type your password, click two buttons and then tap your heels together three times and sacrifice a lamb to Cthulhu.
I'd imagine this is due to people's private lives being invaded as bosses investigate peoples facebook pages to find a reason to fire them.

Account killer apparently can do it.
Facebook is becoming shittier and shittier every day. It's turning into Myspace. Each day I hope for the next site that doesn't keep adding shitty, broken features, and actually cares about it's member base to come out.
Why won't I delete my facebook if I hate it so much? Well, all my friends have one, and it is simply the most convenient way to keep in touch with them all.

From what I've seen, being a shitty site and not caring about your members is the easiest way to make money.
Look at 4Chan and Facebook.

Woah, what? Wasn't it Myspace that was helplessly becoming a gimmick of Facebook?

Myspace used to be pretty good, then it turned shitty, then self destructed into a massive pile of shit. I haven't really gone back to their site other than to see what it looks like, but it seems they're still trying to be edgy and cool by changing their logo to something akin to "My |____|"
Maybe they really are better now. Who knows. Unfortunately no one will want to migrate back to them because they really did fuck up so bad.
Facebook used to be absolutely amazing. It was great, it was simple, and it had a lot of power behind it. Facebook's layout and features were pretty much perfect in the beginning. All they needed was to work on the security and privacy features and add a simple chat, and it would have been all set.
But no, then they kept changing the page layout, each time making it more confusing to navigate. Then they started adding a bunch of new pointless features, while neglecting to keep up with the old features that still needed a lot of work. They essentially "half-assed" every new feature and focused on quantity over quality.
They then added the apps. Some were pretty neat, but others became really fucking annoying. Every day I'd get dozens of notifications from a bunch of different apps that my friends added. They spammed friend lists like crazy, and it took forever for Facebook to catch on and put a stop to it.
They added "Chat" which was a pretty neat and much sought-after feature, but it was broken from the beginning. It always lagged, disconnected at times, refused to connect, etc. It never worked, and they never did anything to fix it. It still doesn't even work properly. Hell, it's even worse because they now linked the chat with the private messages. Why the fuck would you combine two different features with different objectives into a clusterfuck of stupid?
Facebook is now falling into that death spiral that Myspace fell into before, but for different reasons. Facebook has become too full of itself. They think they feel invincible simply because of the size of their market share and user base.
I can't wait until people begin to realize Facebook for the utter shit-hole that it has become and either make something else, or find something else.

Unless you don't add your boss on facebook or if you do it's a secondary account and make sure it doesn't come up in a google search.

i don't understand why people talk shit behind their boss's back on facebook
something tells me they really hate their job, but i'm wondering more about why they're working there in the first place if their boss is such an asshole

the desperate need for money is another thing though of course
i'm not sure how it's in america, but if a boss is being an asshole towards his workers, the workers can complain to the government, or if you're a boss yourself talk to the asshole yourself as well as report him as a bad boss to the government
