Does anyone have any recommendations for a controller with a very good d-pad? I've started playing a lot of old school games on emulators and I've noticed the d-pad on the xbox controller isn't that great for precise movements and doesn't register my movements in some instances.
Anyone have experience with the Nego Geo USB pad put out by Sony? It's supposedly one of the best and uses mechanical switches for the d-pad -

I haven't used many D-pads, so I can't really say what the best is, but I've always liked the Dualshocks (1,2 and 3, haven't tried the new one)

I have a PS4, the D-pad is pretty much the same. That said, I'll go with the dualshock. The 360 has an awful dpad and the Wii is too small for me.
I still like the feel of the SNES d pad over anything.
Dualshock DPADs all the way. Logitech DPADs are also pretty nice, and are recognized as Xbox controllers on Windows. The Wii Classic Controller DPAD is pretty nice too.

That's more of a circle pad anyways. I prefer actual DPADs, though it does seem like it'd be quite nice.
Playstation 1 is my favorite. It's very crisp and responsive. PS3 is one I've been using for PS2 emulation and it's quite nice as well.
PSP that's it.
DS3 d-pad is my favorite. The 360 d-pad is insanely inaccurate.

The Xbone controller (incl. dpad) is also really wonderful to use, but it doesn't have PC drivers yet.
I'm going to have to go with the PSP.
Also, you can shim your xbox controller so the d-pad is more clicky in the meanwhile, which helps.
Since The DualShock 3's and 4's and pretty similar I'll go with the Vita's. Pretty much all Sony D-Pads are great.
All the dualshock/PSP/vita dpads are pretty similar, just different in scale and spacing. The great part of it is the separated middle, which allows you to really feel where you are on the dpad and makes using it very accurate.

To me, that is the worst part of the DualShock's cross pad. It's uncomfortable. Then again, I grew up using Nintendo cross pads (rated #1 by the Stone Cross Pad Bureau). The Wii's pad probably would be my favorite, but would like to try that Neo Geo one.
And then the Logitech Precision's pad would make a close second. Better than the F310 and is much quieter.

You like the Wii remote dpad best? I mean it's alright but shit, it certainly isn't great. I have nothing but trouble with it on DKC Returns. The SNES/Classic Controller Dpads are pretty good yeah, but dualshock is still the best for me. I grew up N64/PSX era, however.
What's this precision pad, though? I have the Gamepad F310 and its dpad has served me well enough.

A Logitech gamepad from before the F_10 series. Owned mine since sixth grade. Now probably more of an El Cheapo gamepad. I've more than once accidentally pressed the center of my F310, canceling all cross pad input. Never done that on my Precision.
And the reason why I like the Wii pad is because I homebrewed a bit on it and it was a very easy to use pad.

The transforming d-pad Xbox controller is so much better than the original controller. I prefer this to any other controller.
