Renowned power player PalmDesert has become the first Steam user to break level 1,000. Level 1,049 to be precise. I've just about managed 10.
Since levels and trading cards were implemented in 2013, PalmDesert has wrestled over the top spot. In defending the title, he's amassed 5,029 games and 3,372 DLCs—a respectable chunk of Steam's 9,000-strong catalogue. In other words, the man knows how to work a Steam sale. And that's not to mention his 58,666 items.
It's good to be king, if a little pricey.
Thanks, Kotaku.
literally the entire article. quality post pcgamerbot
I mean if I were filthy rich I'd probably waste money on dumb shit as well. I can't really blame the guy.
I still never fully understood what your steam level is based on. is it really just based on how many games and trading cards you own?

XP based on badges you have, each gives you 100xp (for games anyway, non holo) and it'll take a couple hundred to level up.
Palm desert has crafted over 10k badges for the Steam summer sale and winter sale and currently he needs almost 10k XP to gain one level.
Edit:
Owning x amount of games also gives you a badge, but its quite shit.
Same with years on steam.

Well what more can possibly be said about this?
it was cool watching him get to 1000
and now it's even more fun to play the palmdesert game (going through your friends list to see how long it takes you to get to palmdesert because it almost always works)

it's pretty shitty that the "only" way to level up is to pay for virtual items
could at least be for game amount

i'm level 10 and own ~200 games, which is netting me 434XP :^)
the games owned badge needs a buff

exactly, why does it need an article? I'm sure they could have just jammed this into some other crapshoot article or just not posted at all. it takes more time entering the thread and navigating to the page than to read the article for fucks sake.
How much cash does this guy has
He's literally idling using third party programs on some random games for card drops atm

It really isn't:

I'll be passing up year 12 here in a few weeks and it's not even going to be a big enough boost to push me up another level. I feel like each year should be 100 xp instead of 50 xp, if not more than that.

Which was indeed reduced to 0 XP because bots were exploiting it
Which was indeed reduced to 0 XP because bots were exploiting it
How? I haven't heard of it.
Edit: I just googled it, that's bullshit only because some irresponsible devs boost their bots with it? That's lame and a stupid way to solve the problem.

he's a millionaire
Levels aren't important. I'm at level 22 and I sell pretty much every trading cards I get.
it's a shame since I buy game through my roommate and old friend with in his permission to buy game through gift and this wont give any XP :( that suck :(
but now i have a credit card and got some XP through buying game directly from my account.

lol, holy shit you're right.
It's like he's the center of the entire network.
Why do high level people always tend to have high level friends?
Do games even add to your xp? I think I've been stuck at the same level for years.
Do games even add to your xp? I think I've been stuck at the same level for years.
No, apart from the badge that only updates every 500 games or some shit

This took extraordinarily less time than I thought it would take
Of course it's PalmDesert.
Something interesting I found on /v/.
If you go to your profile and click your friend with the highest level and do that for their friends and keep going. You'll eventually get to PalmDesert in no time. I managed to get to him in 6 clicks.
palmdesert is my hero because i can just imagine him hunched over his computer in the darkness with six monitors playing old horror movies while sludge metal blasts
[editline]1st July 2016[/editline]
probably hs water bottles full of cigarette butts surrounding him, too

That's pretty neat. I'm 4 friends away from PalmDesert

I got to him in 4 clicks, and I went through his friend Stryker who is also over Level 1000. Are they competitors or something?
