I have a free gift wrapping promotion on Amazon, and it's been working great for me over the past month. However, I was (unintentionally) charged gift-wrapping fees for two of the items. I used the promotion on the same orders, and the gift wrapping for the other items in the orders was free, so the glitch only cost me about $8.
I contacted amazon customer service, and they are going to give me a $28 refund, even though I only had to pay $8 out of pocket. Should I let them know that they made a mistake with the refund? I know that if I do, the customer service associate could get in trouble though and I don't want that.
You could not tell anybody and go on with your extra money. Alternatively you could tell them about it and maybe they'll let you keep it or give you a different reward for telling the truth, although they're not required to do that and you might just end up with the $8. I think your concern for getting the service associate in trouble is unwarranted, as I don't believe $20 will set amazon back too much. It really depends on whether you're one of those people to do the "right" thing and tell them about it or keep the money.
Truth is it'll cost them over $20 paying for a customer service rep to unfuck the billing.
$20 is noise to them, they won't even notice the error, and if they somehow do and charge you later or whatever, well, all they're doing is correcting the over-refund that they deserve so you can't blame them too badly for taking their 20 back.
I'd just keep it and consider yourself lucky for once.
If it were a smaller company I wouldn't be surprised if they sent you some free shit. But this is Amazon so it's tiny mark on their books, they've already made that money back in the time it took to make this post.
I once found a hair in my Snickers so they sent me a carton. My dog also attacked my stash of muffins but the container was too strong for him, so I sent a picture to Decor and they sent me a set of ten new ones. Free things are great.
Are you sure it wasn't intentional? They gave me an extra £50 credit after they sent me a game on PS3 when I ordered the Xbox version, but it was intentional

I don't really think that they could do anything if they realized the error and wanted their money back. I'd say whatever, keep it.
pretend to be honourable and say you want them to take it back but really youre hoping theyll give you even more money
I'd return it. Better to be safe than sorry.
Tell the truth is what I would suggest.
Don't think of the company. Think of the people. If you were a Customer Support worker (not the most rewarding of jobs, I'm sure) and you would receive a kind-hearted email from a friendly guy so well-wishing that he would actually care to return the money which you accidently gave him (even though he could've /easily/ ignored it and kept the money for himself), wouldn't that make your day and give you hope for humanity, even if just for a little bit?
Who cares about the money. Make somebody's day; give them that moment of satisfaction in a career largely without it. Notify them of the error.
I've gotten a free monitor from Amazon by mistake berfore, don't bother telling them.
Amazon will just eat the cost. I had a package worth over $1000 dollars stolen off my porch and they just gave me a refund without much trouble. I doubt $20 is going to bother them much.
