last stretch goal they said would be the 21 million dollar mark, where they toss out any outside investment money and make it off pledges alone
Am I the only one thinking they're getting a bit too ambitious at the moment? Or can they actually pull it all off?

They're going to 21 million with regards to stretch goals because that was how much they originally had planned for the game. So at least they've already thought ahead this far, if that's worth anything.
Boy I hope this game is good.
I'm actually genuinely concerned for this game when it gets released. Considering the overwhelming hype and budget behind it it's already pretty much at the pinnacle of expectations. I can't imagine how things will go if it doesn't fully live up to it.

It'll be a steady build-up though. Hangar, dogfighting alpha, universe beta, release with Squadron 42 campaign.
16 mil for a laser pistol......

Have to admit it scares me when a game is announced that pretty much seems to perfectly describe my vision for the perfect game. Is it possible?
Hopefully.

lets hope "EVE but Freelancer" functions as good as it sounds.
This game is my dream game.
I will no longer have to use Spacebuild.

Is that legit? Because that seems wildly irresponsible of them to do, surely a game of this size would require a lot of money to develop?

and 21 million isn't a lot of money?
That's probably the figure they came up with when they asked "ok, exactly how much money would we need to make EVERYTHING we ever wanted for SC"
and without needing to go to private investors they won't have to deal with them demanding things and trying to backseat drive the game.
All the crowd funding mass is saying is "MAKE THE DAMN GAME"
SHIT I forgot to pledge :suicide:

Project Cars would like to have a word with you. They aren't AAA in advertising, but they are there in regards to quality. On top of that, they have a few months on you. Either way, Star Citizen is shaping up to be a very fun and good looking space sim. They show a lot of exterior ship models and those 3 small ones, but I suppose it'll take time to get everything finished and polished. I want to see some minor gameplay if anything.
Oh cool, now they have more money.
Please hire more devs, your small team cannot pull this off.
Hell, hire me: I'll do textures for minimum wage.
[editline]sometimelater[/editline]
What, all they're hiring are programmers, this makes no sense since literally the engine is already basically done, they just need to make the CONTENT.

You realize that content is a two way street, right? Pretty models are useless without the coder to bring them to life, and as professionals who are not hiring artists at the time, they obviously have more than enough of them.

laser pistols were a thing for a long time already, it's just an additional bonus to pledgers who supported it before the mark, it's not so much of a stretch goal as it is a sign of appreciation for the community

I doubt they're writing their own pipeline from the ground up: they probably use Maya and 3DSMAX just like everybody else: All that needs coding is the game specifics itself (and a few more things, but mainly): and they've promised a lot more content: the same idea was already laid out, the content has since been piling on.

"All that needs coding".. you seem to be pretty optimistic about how much work you think a game actually requires doing :v:
Programming wise, it's an absolutely gargantuan undertaking.
They have programmer job positions still open, if anyone is up for the task.
who knew it was so profitable to sell basically fairy dust and promises

If it were anyone but Chris Roberts ('cept maybe Gabe) nobody would give a dime.
That was my justification exactly on pledging for Bounty Hunter real early in.
I don't like this documentary stuff. I feel like it's wasting time/money that they could be using to make the game better.
Chances are they'll just outsource it to a film crew. They probably won't do it themselves.

it's called marketing
AAA games nowadays quite often spend about the same amount of money on marketing as they do on making the actual game
