"maybe if we axe our popular handheld people will finally buy the new one"
I think a lot of people still use PSPs as emulation machines
"maybe if we axe our popular handheld people will finally buy the new one"
or maybe stop producing decade old hardware?
Holy cow it's 10 years old?!
This is bad, the PSP was still rather popular in Japan over the Vita (albeit that's shifting by now, but still). Even more so, this means people will have to be stuck with the damn price gouging of the Vita.

Wanting people to buy your new product and discontinuing your old and by now irrelevant one? What greedy unfair business strategy!
The homebrew scene will likely still live on for many years.

The vita is a glorious piece of hardware tho
The vita is a glorious piece of hardware tho
Does it still have that charger that plugs in both ways round but only works one way?
The vita is a glorious piece of hardware tho
The vita has like 3 games and a battery that lasts 30 minutes and proprietary everything so sony can get more money.
I was being facetious with my first comment, but the point still stands that people loved the PSP and nobody is buying the Vita.

Oh, and to clarify, I'm not saying they shouldn't discontinue the PSP, it is like 10 years old and it makes sense from a business standpoint.
and a battery that lasts 30 minutes
I was about to say this but it seems the slim models battery life is much better. Proprietry stuff is pretty shit.

Well it has enough games that I like to play, the battery lasts 3-4 hours just like the 3DS (and actually has a standby time that lasts for months). Memory cards are a bummer for sure.
It's basically a PSP 2.0 just without homebrew right now.
I absolutely love my Vita. I like being able to party chat with my friends, I love the beautiful screen, I love being able to take screenshots of said screen, I love being able to get PS1, PSP, and Vita games since the library is wholly digital as well as physical. It has so much cool shit going on with the system itself that sometimes I want to put my dick on it. Totally blows my 3DS out of the water. I swear I wasn't paid to post this, either, although it would have been nice.

i dunno from your posting record i just assumed you were that dumb to be serious
I used to have a PSP-1000, it was a great machine, and then someone stole it. I know zero people with a Vita, though.
I still have a 1000 but the repeated updates make it hard to do much officially when you're running homebrew. I've been stuck on M33 for years.

ah yes, you speak of course about the time you dumb bombed every post I made in the 2DS thread because I said the 3DS 3D was a gimmick
My psp 2000 was the best nintendo handheld I ever had. I love it so much.
Emulation is literally the only reason I still have my old PSP 1000
I bought a PSP and about 11 games two weeks ago. I can't believe how much I missed while it was popular, it really is a great system so far. Wish I could have gotten in on it when the online was still alive.
I really need to buy a handheld. This iPhone isn't cutting it.
I would invest in a used PSP for emulation purposes. Whipping out Super Mario World or Star Fox SNES when board would be nice. And I'm sure there are other things that work like Doom or Wolf 3D.
I've still got a psp fat laying around, maybe I should fix it up and get a new battery, do you still need a pandora to CFW it?
I still have a PSP-2000, but the ghosting on it's screen is horrible.

Nope. You just need some files.
Here's a guide on how to do it! It uses the latest firmware and the only real downside is that on newer systems, the changes aren't permanent (so you have to launch a program to get into CFW if you run out of battery or hard reset the console.)

Nah. Back when the PS3 encryption key fiasco was happening, someone got ahold of the PSP keys Sony used. So, I'm pretty sure all homebrew comes signed nowadays, which means you don't need a CFW to run, say, an emulator, but you do need a program to load CFW to access advanced features (like cheat programs for PSP games or plugins and stuff like that).
On topic, it's sad to see the PSP go. I had a PSP-1000 back in the day, and then one day while looking for it I found that one of the legs on my bed broke, sending the full force of the corner of my bed down onto the screen. Was completely unusable after that.
And yeah, they are incredible emulation machines. The emulators for the PSP were incredibly nice, and the full set of controls on the thing made it super useful for playing SNES/GBA/whatever games.
